The TATL -LGT Fares will be called Basic Economy Effective 12/11/2018, Additional Restrictions will Apply

Now even more ways to fly across the Atlantic
-- Atlantic Joint Venture offering with Air Canada and Lufthansa Group
New ways to fly across the Atlantic Effective June 5, 2018, United Airlines in line with Atlantic Joint Venture partners Air Canada and Lufthansa Group, will introduce a new fare option in select trans-Atlantic markets.

Created for our customers who may be more price-sensitive, these lowest-priced fares are the first step towards a Basic Economy product on trans-Atlantic United flights. The fare includes the same inflight experience as standard United Economy but with important restrictions that you'll want to review carefully before booking.
What is the new fare option?
For customers traveling between the United States or Canada and select European countries in specific lower Economy booking classes, the new fare option will not include a complimentary first checked baggage allowance, upgrades or the ability to make changes following purchase.
Customers purchasing this fare for travel ticketed and operated on United will be eligible for advance seat assignments, one standard carry-on bag and one personal item, and the same United Economy cabin experience and services, including dining options, Wi-Fi for purchase and inflight entertainment.

What date is the fare option applicable?
The fare option is applicable for first ticket and first travel date on or after June 5, 2018, for all points of sale. The first bag fee does not apply to tickets purchased before June 4, 2018
.
How is the fare option identified?
For all Atlantic joint venture carriers, the last 3 characters of the fare basis code will be -LGT, and the fare type code is ERU/EOU.
For point of origin U. S. the fare is planned for booking classes K , L and T.
For point of origin E.U. and Canada, the fare is planned for booking classes K, L, T, S and W. Booking classes are subject to change and may vary by route.
The fares will vary from market to market and depend on availability. Customers traveling between the U.S. or Canada and Europe will be able to see if this fare is available on their flight when booking.

What are the conditions of the new fare option?
The new fare has some important restrictions compared to a standard United Economy ticket:
• The fare does not include a free baggage allowance for checked baggage.
• The fare is non-refundable and non-changeable except as stated in the United 24-hour flexible booking policy.
• The fare cannot be combined with any other fare type.
• The fare is not eligible for upgrades to a premium cabin (complimentary, purchased or instrument).
Are there any exemptions from the first bag fee?
The following customers are exempt from the fee when checking in with United and traveling on United or United Express for the first segment of a trans-Atlantic itinerary:
• MileagePlus Premier members
• Chase MileagePlus cardholders
• Members of the U.S. military
• Star Alliance Gold members
Will earn 50% PQMs, 100% PQDs, RDMs, Lifetime miles and segment credit toward 4 UA segments needed for elite status
-- BE and TATL BE earns will be the same
BE uses N fares, TATL BE / -LGT can be a number of the lower discount economy fare classes
No changes -- dates, fare class, truly non-refundable ... and no upgrades
Other -LGT restrictions
Normal TATL fares include a free check bag -- -LGT fares do not for non-elites / non-credit card holders
No Premier seating benefits - i.e., no free Economy Plus

To aviod TATL BE fares

LH group already has some fully non-changeable discount P fares. It wouldn't surprise me to see UA follow suit.

On a BE TATL fare can I use my non-status UA MP account to accrue miles, then show another airline's *G card at check in to get a checked bag benefit?

By way of explanation - this is a bulk ticket, so miles earned on UA and another airline are the same. UA miles are a bit more valuable to me as a redemption.

I also do not want to end up in a middle E+ seat, as happened before when applying my *G, as a "favor" by UA. Based on the travel date, I expect E- to be fairly empty, and a better chance of getting an aisle seat there, perhaps together with my companion.

Alternatively, can I leave the *G on the reservation until check in, check the bag, and then swap back to MP number at the lounge or gate? Or will that strip me of *G benefits and thus not allowed?0

Are you asking about domestic or TATL BE -- the other restrictions vary.
I'd like to ask about TATL on BE. The mother is Prem Gold traveling with an 11 year old. Do they both get to check two bags? I guess they cannot assign seats for free and will get whatever the computer gives them?

Also they have domestic connections each way in case that matters.

The elite will get their normal bag allowance, BG1, and carry-on. The companion will also if on the same PNR.

OK, I bought the ticket and it seems they each get two 32KG bags. It's a K fare.

Baggage fees are per traveler

Brussels, Belgium (BRU) to New York, NY (LGA - LaGuardia) 0.00 USD 0.00 USD 70.0lbs (32.0kg) - 62.0in (157.0cm)
Newark, NJ (EWR - Liberty) to Brussels, Belgium (BRU) 0.00 USD 0.00 USD 70.0lbs (32.0kg) - 62.0in (157.0cm)

Who brought the ticket does not matter. 2x32KG is standard allowance for UA Gols on UA operated flights.

Correct, as long as all flights are operated by United.

If the return flight from Europe is on a different airline, the UA Gold limits will not apply. Instead, the mother would get the standard allowance (zero) plus one bag at 23kg. I think it would be up to the operating airline whether or not to extend that to a non-status companion on the same PNR.

But, if the return flight is UA-operated, no worries; 2x32kg is correct.

And for some carriers, that allowance is now zero even if *G.

SK and LX, for sure. AC seems to allow it still, and LH does too "as a special courtesy" only. You need to check the operator's website for baggage allowance because the future will be zero bags on a Light tariff regardless of status.

A flight was booked for me from Europe to Los Angeles via Toronto through an OTA (UA codes) in the cheapest possible fare - all flights except one are operated by LH or AC. Does anyone know what my status benefits as StarAlliance Gold are?

As far as I understood, United Basic Economy gives me:
- Checked Luggage x1
- Lounge access for international flights
- No seat reservation

while both LH and AC also provide the seat reservation. Do the rules of UA apply since all my flights are UA coded, or will I benefit from seat reservations, since the flights are operated by LH or AC?

The rules will be determined by the operating carrier but UA/LH/AC are operating under a Joint Venture and the general rules have been for the most part harmonized. However, elite exemptions and credit card waivers will be carrier specific.

In *A, only the operating carrier matters, so in this case you are only subject to the rules of AC and LH. As of right now, when it comes to longhaul flights, AC and LH both give *G members an exemption allowing for 1 free checked 50lb bag. You will also get lounge access and priority boarding/check-in/security as usual. You will not have free seat selection until check-in.

Adding stopover to TATL BE first bag/no changes allowed

A while back, I picked up a roundtrip for DW and me SFO-CPH this fall, ridiculously priced at $398 per ticket in economy, K, but somehow preferred seat section. Two flights each way, and only United for the first, to ZRH.

We would like to have a stopover leaving for ORD a few days earlier, sticking with ZRH for the same day. Is this at all possible, do you think?
