New ways to fly across the Atlantic Effective June 5, 2018, United Airlines in line with Atlantic Joint Venture partners Air Canada and Lufthansa Group, will introduce a new fare option in select trans-Atlantic markets.
Created for our customers who may be more price-sensitive, these lowest-priced fares are the first step towards a Basic Economy product on trans-Atlantic United flights. The fare includes the same inflight experience as standard United Economy but with important restrictions that you'll want to review carefully before booking.

What is the new fare option?
For customers traveling between the United States or Canada and select European countries in specific lower Economy booking classes, the new fare option will not include a complimentary first checked baggage allowance, upgrades or the ability to make changes following purchase.
Customers purchasing this fare for travel ticketed and operated on United will be eligible for advance seat assignments, one standard carry-on bag and one personal item, and the same United Economy cabin experience and services, including dining options, Wi-Fi for purchase and inflight entertainment.
What date is the fare option applicable?
The fare option is applicable for first ticket and first travel date on or after June 5, 2018, for all points of sale. The first bag fee does not apply to tickets purchased before June 4, 2018

For all Atlantic joint venture carriers, the last 3 characters of the fare basis code will be -LGT, and the fare type code is ERU/EOU.

Looking at a SFO-LHR flight and I'm now seeing handluggage only fares on UA.com, that are also not changeable/upgradeable. They don't have their own fare bucket though, this ticket does T fare for either of the options in the image.

OK, see it now - that BE fare seems much higher than what Norwegian charges when they release their sale prices.

This doesn't quite look like BE, though. I'd have to play around with it, but it looks like the restrictive fare would still earn PQMs and lifetime miles, and be eligible for a seat assignment, likely including E+ (paid, or free with status). Would credit card holders and elite members still get a baggage allowance? What about non-UA *G?
Along with LH group, UA seems to be busy pushing the envelope in terms of what restrictions people will accept. I'm unhappy that they're doing this, but I'll at least give them kudos for being upfront about it, rather than burying it somewhere in the fare rules.
UA's cheapest price was $522; it's in the screenshot.
PS: This is reason #99 ,999 to read carefully before you buy, especially when using an OTA. These fares might well be available from an OTA, minus the helpful warning popup.

The fare family uses the -LGT suffix, but does not book into N, so it would seem they earn miles and permit E+ and seat selection (for the time being).

This "basic economy" does sound much more palatable than the domestic basic economy. I do appreciate things like SDC etc. and use those a lot, though on international routings that becomes much less relevant as the frequency is so much lower...
I wonder if they'll start playing with the E+ eligibility on BE, somewhat similar to the downgrade AA to their silver equivalents

New Economy fare: first bag charge, no changes/upgrades allowed?
I've noticed a new 'fare' category that I had not seen before. The same fare category but 'Economy (first bag charge/no changes allowed). Clicking through, I see that Premier members have standard luggage benefits (ie I can take 3 bags at 70 lbs each). Are there any other restrictions? I'm sure there is already a discussion around this but I couldn't find it.

I'm aware of that thread...these are not BE (ie 'N') fares. These are the regular fare buckets but with luggage and changes unbundled. I'm just not clear (and nor is the website) whether anything else is unbundled.

I get the same offers, even though as 1K I get free baggage and free E+; i.e., UA tries to sell us what we already get for free.

Thanks, I didn't really mean a new fare category, but even three days ago this unbundled fare didn't show up on my searches. First time was today. I just wanted to make sure that I wasn't going to miss out on anything (baggage, E+, etc). The website was very clear, however, about changes:
1 First checked bag charge for the Economy (first bag charge/no changes allowed) fare is based on a standard sized bag.
