Terms and Conditions
* For this promotion, only dollars spent on the "fare" on eligible flights operated by United and United Express will qualify toward meeting spending milestones. Certain specialty tickets, including but not limited to unpublished, consolidator/bulk, group, tour and opaque fares, will not be counted towards spending milestones. Dollars spent on tickets purchased for flights operated by a Star Alliance member airline or a MileagePlus partner airline with tickets issued by United (ticket number starting with "016") will not qualify for this offer. The "fare" is the base fare of the ticket plus carrier-imposed surcharges, excluding any government-imposed taxes and surcharges. For tickets purchased in a currency other than U.S. dollars, we will convert the purchase to U.S. dollars using an industry-standard exchange rate. Please note that the price displayed when purchasing a ticket on united.com includes up to a 7.5% U.S. Federal Transportation Tax on the base amount of the fare on itineraries wholly within the United States. This tax also applies to certain itineraries between the United States and Canada or Mexico. The U.S. Federal Transportation tax will not count toward meeting any spending milestone.

Not sure if this was aked yet but does anyone know if the spend through my acct needs to be for me or anyone? I have the best offer of my family so they should all book tix through my acct right?
Even if they book through my acct they should get all the usual mile credits including lifetime miles right?

Let me guess. You are already Plat or 1K but almost but
not quite on track to requalify. That's my situation, and
my offer was even worse than yours - same carrots,
higher spend. As in $6K to get 8K miles.

Some interesting data points:
1) I didn't receive an email but had a campaign.
2) UA mktg must have planned this promo for a while (likely) and/or did not look at comprehensive behavior (i.e. only retro not future).
I've changed my UA behavior 180 degrees fairly recently and just my bookings > cumulative milestones by easily 5x. I understand that existing bookings don't count though.

I haven't read the whole thread as I'm on PTO and not checking FT much right now.
I logged in just to see what ridiculous offer I would get. Does this take the cake for most ridiculous?
$33K = 48,000 miles
$37K = 72,000 miles
$41K = 120,000 miles
That's it. I'm already at 225K PQM and $35K+ spend.
Not a chance I will double my spend with this airline while they give away free status to everyone, including upgrading some from 1K to GS. I spent $64K last year and didn't get GS.
Please remove the "targeted" from the thread topic. This is clearly not a targeted promo as seemingly anyone can sign up using the link in the OP.

This is clearly based on data analytics.
The downside of this kind of analytics is that these offers become public - it isn't like 15 years ago when nobody shared information. Offering someone who spends very little a large amount of miles to spend an additional 5K at the same time you offer a 1K or GS the same number of miles for 5X the spend is very poor planning n United's part.
Marketing 101 says that pissing off your best customers is generally a poor strategy.
In my case my targets are huge and it is unlikely I'm going to do anything special to spend an additional 10 or 20K beyond what the travel I need to do for my job.

I don't see anything definitive in the Wiki about PCU upgrade revenue applying to this promo. Does anyone know?

Yeah, me. I've got an upcoming contract requiring weekly flights for several months and I was debating UA (earn status that I might not be able to take advantage of next year) or WN (earn companion pass). Given the combination of the free status upgrade and now 50K miles for a very small amount of spend, I think that tilted the scales in UA's favor... at least enough to qualify Plat.

Nothing for me. Bummer. Good chance I would paid more to fly UA on an upcoming trip.
The reports I'm seeing make sense. People don't realize that, by and large, promotions are not "fair and equal" and are intended to reward the "less deserving". If they were only designed for the best customers, it's like throwing money down a hole. Maybe the higher elites would rather have nothing...
