It's not enough below 2.3¢/mile to make me bite. And remember that you have to buy at least 40,000 miles to get that 2.26¢ rate. Any lesser amount of miles and you're looking at 2.82¢/mile. Not so hot.

RNE, advising those who want 40k+ miles not to wait too long. The sale ends soon: February 17, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. CST.

Prices on a few of mine have gone up recently (particularly PQM--the RDM for almost all of my itins has remained a steady 2.3cpm). I had a few which were around 8cpm and which are now 10cpm, and a couple which went up to 11 and 12cpm for PQM.

The offer on one of my international itins for 75k PQM @ $7.5k is particularly laughable due to PQD requirements. Sure, there are folks out there who will have 25k PQM @ $10k+ in PQD but who want 1K... but really? If you're flying so little, why spend that much just for 1K?

I just booked my first flight since Dec. It's a short hop, BOS to IAD RT. Offering 3.1 CPM for RDM plus 10 CPM for PQM.

I'm guessing we'll see a significant drop in prices from April 1. UA will have been seeing a significant drop in demand after February 3. Purchases up to February 3 will have been up quite a bit as people bought to get awards prior to the Feb 3 inflation so revenue from mileages sales should be Ok through the end of Q1. There is no revenue recognition until the miles are used, but they'll need to do something relatively quickly to avoid an eventual adverse impact on revenue.

That's would make some sense..
However, outside FT and true frequent flyers/optimizers, i am not sure so many peopple might pull the trigger for 1.9 or 2.0 vs 2.3 ... We will see...

Okay, so my visa finally went through and I can travel to Australia! I've never done this award accelerator thing before, so I want to ask you knowledgeable people what the best way to get 15 000 miles for the lowest per mile amount. I've read 2.3 is currently the lowest. I do plan on getting the refund within 24 hours.

Right now, I would look at buying through United's 40% off offer as well (although the minimum for the 40% discount may be more miles than you want).

See if it is a better deal than Reward Maximizer.

hello!! have a question on PQM/RDM purchase. I am united silver.

Booked united on DSM-DEN-EWR-BOM R/T May 14 / Jun 13. Flight and fare as follows

1. All outbound on L Fare - all UA metal, total miles 9999.
2. All return on T fare. BOM-FRA & FRA - IAH on T fare operated by lufthansa, total miles 9317 miles. Plus IAH - DSM on T fare so another 802 miles.

I used my chase ua explorer card to purchase the tickets at $3999 (3 tickets, other 2 are not united silver members). So can someone confirm how many PQMs and RDMs I will get?

My calculation says: RDM = 30177, plus 3999*2=30177+7998=38175 & PQM = 20118. Is this correct??

Now my second part. In the accelerator section, I am offered 20K RDMs for $460, 20K PQMs for $2400. Is it worth it? why would someone pay twice for NOT FLYING? I know the other forums say that its 12.3 to 14.3 as most offers. In this case its cheaper to fly and back for the miles...

Dont shoot me for the long message, thanks all for this forum!!

PQM looks correct. However, your RDM should be 20118*1.25 (silver status bonus) + whatever your credit card gives you. So I come up with 25147 plus your credit card miles (33145?)
2)not usually, but some cases it makes sense (you know you'll be short at the end of the year for the next status & want it)

I am UA Gold and have three intra-Asia Star Alliance award trips (with no United flights).
All three now offer 15000 miles at
RDM: 2.8 cpm
PQM: 10.0 cpm

RDM is more expensive than what I saw last year (2.3 cpm).

The one reservation of mine that was offering RDM for 3.3¢ each and PQM for 9.0¢ each (for 3000 or 6000 miles) still is; the one that was 2.9¢/RDM is now 3.1¢/RDM and 9.0¢/PQM (for 5000 or 10,000 miles). Both have been upgraded with miles to First; not sure if that makes the price increase but I wonder.

Two award reservations for the fall (one-ways on US booked with UA miles while one still can do so, for CLE-PHL trips that UA won't offer anymore then) are also offering 3.1¢/RDM and 9.0¢/PQM for 1000 or 2000 miles. I would assume that option may dry up March 30, but who knows.

All of the offers I am getting are way pricier than during 2013.

Wink

I saw some international flights on *A metal offering miles at 3.0 cpm last week. These have now dropped to 2.5cpm.

Now lowly kettle general member, no premier status. For first PAID trip of the year, SFO-ORD-PWM-BWI, at M fares ($1300 ticket), RDM price is 2.9 cents/mi, PQM price 10.9 cents/mi for both 4000 miles ($116 for RDM's, + $320 for PQMs) and 8000 miles ($232 + $640 for PQMs).

If it's $640 for 8000 PQM above the $232, then that's only 8 cents per PQM--much less than some offers it seems, but still more than it used to be.
