None of this makes any sense - GS seems almost random for certain people.
I know people who made it and were at 20 cents per mile. I know others who were higher than that, with more spend, and didn't make it. |
The vast majority of people I meet travelling as a GS are company sponsored - met three last week - one on NRT - BKK and two on NRT-SIN. LOL one even asked who sponsored me - and I replied that I earned it on my own - she looked at me like I had three heads...

Any other recent notifications? They seem to have stopped for now. Perhaps they're doing a second wave and/or scrutinizing people on the borderline.
I still haven't heard one way or another. GS for 5 straight years. 2013 travel was $48K spend, 230K PQM, 130 PQS, probably around 150K BIS, fares almost entirely domestic full fare Y with 2 Asia trips in C. SFO based. |

5 days later and still no word from United with either good or bad news. Anyone else still waiting?
Very happy to have GS again as the Precheck line was backed up all the way to the GS entry door at ORD on Monday morning. I was checked in and through precheck in less than 5 minutes through the "swishy" doors (as my son calls them). And with Million Miler status match, means wife gets GS again this year as well for her couple solo flights without me. Very pleased although communication by UA could have been more proactive, an email doesn't cost much... |
Well, this year I had 41167 spend (after tax), and BIS 108,260, 3 C to Europe, 1 C to Brazil, and 1 C to Oz. Mostly mid to upper bucket economy within the US (a few Z, A and P fares), I'm hoping I have a shot finally at GS after 2.5m and 17yrs straight as a 1k. My home Airport is MSP - so hopefully they take sympathy on someone who lives in a competitor's hub!
No love so far however. I registered my account for review with the link in the post above. I am holding all travel booking until I hear back. I know other Airlines will love my 40+k in spend if UA doesn't, and sadly, 1k is just not worth the headaches of Rj 145's, computer problems and the like. I know that there are lots who spend way more than my 40k, so I am extremely pleased they got the GS invite! Hoping I do too! Keeping my fingers crossed. |

Just checked with my company's travel and we don't have company sponsored/nominated GS's. A pity that a company with over 70k employees globally and SMI/J on the board of directors doesn't get any love from UA. We do have a contract with them and get discounted fares. We used to get travel upgrades but those are no longer a part of the deal per travel mgr. I'll continue as an under-entitled 1K.
My guess is a company that is 100% focused on cost has no free GS and likely even prevents their employees from earning miles (as a previous employer of mine did). |

I guess we have different travel patterns - I rarely travel in the US at all - all EMEA and AP - and as I said it's my experience. Would be interesting to know that percentage though - I bet its higher than you think. Based on comments from experienced GA / GFL attendants I know its more than most people think...

Anybody know if you are given GS status(presumably due to spend since I barely made platinum based on PQM) will the award the GPU's?
When I called they said they would be deposited on the 31st but that seems like such an arbitrary date. Thanks |

Back in mid dec I received the dreaded email from United about missing GS qualification for 2014. I have been GS for the past 2 years and PPlat previously in CO. I submit my case for reconsideration at that time and got an email back saying they will make a decision by Jan 15.
Just received the email from MileagePlus, it's a challenge. Spend and fly 15,000 usd between now an Apr 1st in order to re qualify for GS. Tough one, since my heavy travel schedule is in the summer. :( |
Got email notification today...must have barely made it, but I'm in again!
Only $35K in spend this year...down about $15K from the last 4 years, so I thought there was no way, but pleasantly surprised. There seems to be a "loyalty" component to the selection based on the text of the email... "We typically invite those who have achieved very high levels of revenue while flying first and business class tickets on United, United Express and Copa operated flights over recent consecutive years." |
Got an offer email today thanking me for my continued business and if I spend and fly $15K by 4/6 I will get it. I already have $14K of flights booked through 2/2 so I am pretty sure I will be good to go then. 48K in spend last year and 155K BIS.
