2) I will probably switch to Delta for Europe since they have good connections from Denver through Atlanta. I have to connect on United anyway. Hopefully I will get to Diamond on Delta.

I am with you on this one. Added benefit is the new int'l terminal in ATL which is very nice, and that ATL does not get affected by the winter-storms that shut down all United NW hubs (EWR, IAD, ORD).

Thanks! Checked and yep, did not make GS. Though, amusingly, on the same page as where it says i did not make it, it also says (where it shows what "stage" your "materials" are at) it says "congratulations on achieving global services, your materials will be sent to you in 1-2 weeks"! So, still some kinks in the system but I think I am done. Btw, can Prem 1k use GPUs to upgrade flights bought with miles? I think that was GS only and it was the most useful perk in my opinion...

I believe that using GPUs to upgrade award flights is only for GS. Better book as many flights as possible by Jan 31.

Only GS can do this.

United Club

I went to sign up online for a United Club membership and was given the following message:

"Your MileagePlus Global Services status already entitles you to the benefit of this subscription
You won't be able to add this subscription to your MileagePlus account because you already have the benefits associated with it. You can select to give this subscription as a gift to someone else or sign in to a different MileagePlus account to purchase this benefit as a gift for someone else."

Is this a new benefit for GS members?

I've heard that GS members can get access to the United club lounges while on international trips. However, on a domestic ticket, I was denied entry.

Wow, that would be a change I like. Especially if they extend the expiration on my current paid membership.

I just went to try and it said none of this to me. :( I hope this will actually come into effect soon!

K
Like to see this but think our legs are being pulled. I was just charged for this so doubt if it is true

I would have liked to see this also, which would have been comparable to what Delta Diamonds receive as a benefit.

Maybe it has to do with whether the GS status is earned through individual or corporate travel.

Award Tickets

Since cpm seems to be one of the factors in determining GS qualification, does anyone know that if you fly on an award ticket (using miles from your account), does this award ticket get "factored" into the cpm calculation? Award tickets are essentially $0 revenue for United. However, you do not receive any PQM for award tickets as well.

I would hate to see my average cpm being lowered because I flew a some flights using award tickets.

Very curious: Have you seen any minors (under 18) as GS? I haven't but just wondering

MK19791980 Jan 27, 2014 6:34 pm

I will be surprised if booking award tickets has that much of a negative impact. I booked quite a number of them last year. What matters I believe is how much you spend

Since miles aren't awarded for award trips, seems very unlikely that this is factored into cpm.

2014 GS Welcome Pack

Sorry for this question being a little bizarre but I wanted to see if anyone has had the same problem.

I received my GS 2014 welcome pack last week and I have carried it around for a few days in a small travel bag. The welcome pack, its documents and luggage tags seem to reek of the most noxious plastic resin or mold smell. I have had to throw the whole thing out including tags and the bag I had it in (and everything in it at the time) exhibits the same noxious smell. I hope this was a USPS issue, and not a source product/mailing issue. Just wondering if anyone had the same issue. I am not hypersensitive to smell it was pretty overwhelming and even the tags I had put on other travel bags had to go. Thanks.

See the "Stinks" thread. Apparently, an issue at the source!

UPDATE: Whoops, the moderator moved this as I was typing. Now see the "What's the Stupidest, Least Substantive...." thread...
