I know for a fact that our company receives a number of GS memberships. How many, I don't know nor care. Lets just say though a large chuck of the GS population probably had it handed to them vs. the 1K's (and a number of 'real' GS) that have earned it with BIS miles.

I know someone at UA and it is this person's informed opinion that the majority of GS pax earn their way to that distinction. The corporate designees do in fact make up a minority of the overall GS population.

I know about 20 GS and everyone of them spends north of $50K annually and therefore is anointed GS by UA, not his/her company.

Hi everyone,

When last night's flight posts, I'll be over $60k PQD (mostly J, B, and some F tickets) and just shy of 150k PQM. Will United eventually notice me as my PQDs approach $100k or will I likely have to wait until January? This is my first full calendar year flying UA.

Thanks!

given that companies can give out 1K even easier than GS (ie for less agreed spend), i'm not sure it's a fair premise to assume that the proportion of "granted" GS is any different than 1K.

You will very likely have to wait until January. After June 30th, it doesn't look like they do mid year qualifications.

Very true. Saw this morning too on our internal travel site where we have a 'special promotion' that UA sent our company where if you have two roundtrip flights by year end (doesn't matter on spend or number of miles), you are granted Silver with UA for all of 2015.

I have 166k miles this year and over 60k in flights. I have probably another 120-130k miles left to fly this year and 20 to 30k worth of travel booked. I hope I get the letter this year and it is worth as much as it seems to be.

All this has been business international.

A co worker has done 100k and 32k and will be at 140k and 40k by year end. They feel they are assured GS, why I don't know.

This is my first full year on UA.

How long do you retain GS or is it year to year?

Year to year. $40K spend is definitely on the low end for GS, unless they are getting nominated by corporate travel, or you're based in some non-UA city like Toledo.

Also seems that requalification has a little bit lower threshold. Proposed that it's based on multi-year performance so that one slightly lower spend year won't kill you. Plus variables above. Your friends' data points would be at the very lowest end of reported numbers.

That seems to be the case. Kinda dumb on UA's part.
