I sometimes join the seat lice. If I have row 7 E+ on 738 then I need to make sure I board early because some asshats like to put their bags in the bins ahead of their seats. I made the mistake of boarding towards the end of group 2 once and had to put my bag all the way back in row 15. It sucked having to walk against traffic both while boarding and deplaning.

If i'm in row 21 E+ then I don't bother lining up early.

If row 7 and row 21 are closed then I look for another flight :P

Boarding United as a AC *G was ALWAYS Group 2 when I had it. What was the Group 1 trick?! Doesn't matter anymore as I'm 1K...

What has a higher boarding priority than Group One?

This morning I was standing in the Group One line ready to board a SEA-IAH flight with about 8 or so passengers. The initial boarding announcement was made and a couple came from the left and went right in front of the first in line using their phone as a BP.

Wondering whether these were line jumpers or someone of higher boarding priority. ( They sat in F as did we.)

Global Service, Military in uniform (but I have seen plain clothes w/ military ID), and persons/ Families requiring more time to board go ahead of group 1.

Edit: Updated.

UA has nothing on WN (Southwest) when it comes to miracle cures. Because there are no seat assignments and the GAs aren't allowed to ask about what specific disability a passenger has, the disabled preboard hoard is legendary, as are the stories of the <Hallelujah, I'm cured!!! It's a miracle> cries at the destination, as the formerly feeble sprint off the plane. I think the Florida flights are especially prone to this little issue.

Check out the WN forum sometime...very entertaining reading.

If they called group 1, I'm guessing line jumpers.

If they did this during the first announcement - before group 1: GS, people needing more time, or military.

Global Service DYKWIAs

Most GS don't board before group one but at leisure on the routes I take.

I'd suggest that United identify this group as "Group Zero" for transparency and consistency with the rest of the boarding nomenclature.

GS have learned to wait in the wings and skirt the Group 1 line by whatever avenue is available on the routes that I take.

The actual exact wording United uses is “uniformed military personnel”. This can obviously be interpreted in at least 2 different ways, military personnel in uniform or personnel who are part of a uniformed military service”. Not sure we’ve seen an official UA clarification.

The Navy officially and specifically discourages flying on commercial flights in uniform (due to concern for being a target).
