Due to the length of concourse B, a connection under an hour when the arriving or departing flight is a UA mainline aircraft, is not advised. If you arrive on the far west end and depart on the far east end, then allowing for the time it takes deboard the plane, and the 20 minute cut off when UA starts to cancel seat assignments, you are unlikely to make your connection. Of course sitting in the front of the arriving plane helps as does having no green tagged bags.

However, if both aircraft are United Express, then a 45 minute connection is acceptable because all United Express flights arrive and depart on the east end of concourse B. Due to construction some United Express flights are utilizing concourse A which requires a transfer via train.

30 mins is the standard MCT
DEN is a pretty decent airport for UA-UA connections and probably has less delays then some other hubs.

Depending on your definition of "safe". 50 minutes is pretty reasonable. Longer, of course, would be "safer."

What is the minimum time that is "safe" for DEN--like in Summer.

No other airline seems to work, although Alaska is close.

Ideas?
You should be fine, I would recommend to sit forward of the wing to save 10+ min to wait to deplane.

Issue in DEN is one long terminal walk. It's not that bad, IME, but if you end up arriving at the very end of the RJ gates, it can be a bit of a walk.

50 minutes, assuming your inbound is on time, should work fine as long as you walk at a reasonable speed. The complicating factor could be a late arrival. I probably wouldn't do under an hour these days, especially given I'm usually traveling with a toddler which slows down the walk. But I'd also consider what alternative options are - if you are going to a place where there aren't additional options that day, I'd err on the side of booking a longer connection. That would be different for me than connecting in DEN to say, SFO, where there are lots of additional options if you miss it.

If everything is on-time, 50 minutes at DEN is more than fine. Even if your inbound TPA-DEN is delayed 20-30 minutes, if you sit near the front and know exactly which gate you're going to, you should be fine. Once you land at DEN, check the UA app on your phone for the DEN-MFR gate, and just start walking on the moving walkways. At worst case scenario, walking from B15 to B95 may take 10-15 minutes, maybe.

Looking at flight stats for today, TPA-DEN arrived at Gate B47 10 minutes early, and DEN-MFR left from Gate B54 10 minutes late. I think even if the DEN-MFR flight weren't delayed 10 minutes, you would have had no problem making that connection today.

Of course, if you're one of those people who worry about tight connections, have you thought about an itinerary on AS? I see a TPA-SEA-MFR routing, though it's with a 3hr layover at SEA, and arrival into MFR after midnight.

I don't worry too much about tight connections, but I travel with a worry-wort!
And nothing is crucial usually but late arrivals are a strain on the folks who pick us up and not good for renting either. I like AS, but wish it worked out better for a bunch of flights. Works great for Alaska!

Hello,

I have a few questions regarding domestic > international transfers at DEN. I am meeting my father in Denver later this year to take him on a horse ranching holiday in Wyoming. He will be coming from LHR (on British Airways) and i'll be coming from LAX (on United). His flights will be on separate tickets.

I plan to arrive 1 hour before the BA flight lands. Is it simple/easy to meet my father in arrivals at DEN?

After a night in Denver, we'll both fly to Cody, Wyoming, on United and return 1 week later (most likely with checked luggage). I will be returning to LAX on United and have 2:50 between flights (potentially hand luggage only). My father will be returning to LHR on British Airways and has 4:50 between flights (with checked luggage).

What is the process between arriving on the domestic flight, presumably collecting luggage, and then departing again on an international flight? Ideally, I would like to accompany him for as much of the process as possible (i.e. until I have to get my flight to LAX).

I would be grateful for any advice on the transfer process at DEN.

Thanks in advance,

Work-Shy

He will need to leave security go to the UA baggage claim then go upstairs to the BA check in by door 600 to recheck.

For you, just need to stay on B for your connection no need to leave security.

When you arrive from from LAX just take the train to the terminal and follow songs for international arrivals (north side on Level 5), 1 hour will be enough as you dad will has to clear customs.

When you arrive from LAX, follow the signs to baggage claim and take the train to the main terminal. You will exit the trains in the middle of the main hall. You can then collect your bags and wait for your father's flight.

All International arrivals exit on the lower level (level 5 -same as baggage claim), North side of the main terminal (opposite side from the Westin hotel). There is just one exit door so you will meet your father there after he clears customs and immigration.

Arriving domestic and departing international will essentially follow the same process. Upon your arrival from Cody, take the train to main terminal, collect bags on level 5 then go upstairs to level 6 to re-check bags. Go back thru security and take the train to concourse A to wait for the BA flight. When it's time you can just take the train to concourse B for your UA flight.

This assumes you will have to re-check luggage for the BA flight - although you might ask in Cody if they can interline his bags directly to LHR (might not be possible but doesn't hurt to ask). If you're lucky and you don't have to re-check bags then you can stay inside security upon arrival from Cody and just go directly to the BA gate.

Again, this assumes he's already checked in for his LHR flight and has his boarding pass - if not, you will need to go to the BA check-in counter in the main terminal (the BA counter is on the West side, North end of level 6. UA counters are West side, South end - so the check in counters are directly above UA baggage claim on level 5). There is a BA lounge in concourse A if he's eligible.

After a few scheduled changes I am currently on UA314 (LAX-DEN on a 777) arriving into DEN at 4:41pm connecting 44 minutes later to Lufthansa to FRA departing at 525pm.

I know that I will have to change from B gates to A gates. Is 44min enough?

That 777 should be pretty close to the center of the B gates, so a 100 yards or so to the train, ride from B-A and LH leaves close to the train in the center. You can do it. I wouldn't want to be in the back of the 777 or have it run late.

I hate to miss LH legs because I am never sure how well they will accommodate me. By then I think you are too late to try to get to another hub for a TATL.

You are just one small hiccup away from missing it.

I would try to get an earlier flight or on the nonstop LAX-FRA, 45 min is way too tight for me

United-Lufthansa Connection at DEN in 43 minutes?

Hi!

I am planning of booking my SFO-DXB flight on united.com with the following itinerary (same ticket, economy class):

Dec 17, 2017 - SFO-DEN - UA1858 - 1:20pm-4:47pm
Dec 17, 2017 - DEN-FRA - LH447 - 5:30pm-11:05am(+1)
And then FRA-DXB on LH630.

My primary concern is the low connection time of 43 minutes at DEN. How doable is this, considering Denver weather in December and other factors? Google tells me that UA1858 is often delayed by 30+ min, but so is LH447. Also, how far apart are the United domestic/Lufthansa international gates at Denver airport? What's the possibility that Lufthansa holds the flight for me, in case I get delayed? What about my baggage (2 pcs check-in), will they make the connection?

In case I do miss my flight, who do I go to for rebooking, United or Lufthansa? Also, the next flight to FRA is only after 24 hrs so will United provide accommodation/meals? Or could they reroute me sooner through some other airport? What's the policy on this, and in general for codeshare international connections?
