Though I was already checked in, I logged into United Check-In from their mobile site on my iPhone to look for a better seat and was offered a $99 upgrade to F and I took it. I also noticed that there were 56 people on the upgrade list...
This is my first United/CO flight in several years so I don't know if this is considered a TOD or what (didn't read all the threads and the hundreds of pages). I just thought I'd post my experience because while I am thankful to get the upgrade, I was very surprised that they would sell seats with nearly 60 people wait listed.
Seems like even if it is a legit fare difference to A it would anger elites unless they all had the opportunity to do the same and that's what I don't know...

PHX-DEN-COS. W class. UA Silver. Was offered $49 for PHX-DEN. Took it.
I have been offered this in the past for $159, and I wonder who in their right mind would pay that for a 1.5 hour flight.

as a non-status flyer flying IAD-BOS tomorrow, my offer before checkin was $424 (correct buyup to discount F). at checkin it came down to a mere $299 for a 413 mile flight.
so they are offering a bit of a discount to non-status flyers at checkin, but if they get someone to take *that*, more power to 'em........

2013-07-08 UA 1482 den to sfo, scheduled for departure at 10:01 pm. Booking class H.
Was number four on wait list. App said F was full. Looked at standby list for Y, app said F had 1 seat. Looked at travel options from app and got a 99 dollar offer, to P class (according to the app and the receipt on united.com). Took it as for obvious reasons it was going to be a long night.
After I paid for offer I was not on upgrade list.
A few days ago the offer was around 300 dollars.

UA 1741 (ORD-LAS)
Offered at OLCI
$129 (L -> R)
Accepted. With no status, I was originally offered ~$350 (at booking.) For distance being traveled, $129 upgrade is a no-brainer.

My wife was offered $79 upgrade from IAD-MCO on a Q fare (A319 w/ one seat left) - declined
She is now offered $339 upgrade from MCO-IAH on an H fare
MAKES NO SENSE to me. How do you get a TOD to MCO then an expensive upgrade on a higher fare.

Thanks for posting here - gives further credence to those of us who advocate just because GMs aren't posting them, doesn't mean they don't exist. It's pretty clear they still do.

Congrats on your official TOD!!! One way fare diff between an L and a V-up is $370. You got a nice deal - I'm assuming you saw some others on the waitlist?

(in all sincerity, please continue to post any time you get these offers, it's greatly appreciated to shine a light on this practice)
