You cannot waitlist a GPU in the last 24 hours before the flight so if PZ is not available (PZ=0) then it's too late to do it. If PZ is available then you can do it at anytime until it's under gate control.

SFO-IAD. $749 for the upgrade, $741 for a one-way ticket.

Hi - I’ve had an offer since booking EWR-AUA (flight in July) for $199 ea (me + my wife). We are currently in exit row seat (economy plus).

1) is this an adequate deal
and
2) is there a chance this price goes down for me and I should wait or in all likelihood should I make my decision based on this price which seems to be waiting for me in the App for the last few weeks.

I like your choice of words

I would definitely consider it "adequate". I would say there is a small chance it goes down a little bit - the price is based on premium load - but $199 is pretty low for a 2,000 mile flight.

IAD-SFO today on a non-Polaris 772, $379.
Stuck at $379 all week until check-in yesterday, when it went over $3,000.
Went back down to $379 this morning.

I like the new instant mileage posting. Still in the middle of my trip and the first leg has posted.

I did take the $379 buy-up and earned 50% more PQM and an extra .5 segment. Definitely not worth it CPM wise. Re-booked into P class.

Crazy how that happens, do they really think someone will pay $3K!?

FCO - IAD offer

$699 offer from Economy plus to Polaris FCO-IAH. Not sure if I get extra PQM but don't think so. T&C says "mileageplus miles will be credited based on original class of service". The other legs, IAH-ORD ($159), ORD-FCO ($1159), and IAD-IAH ($3009), seem too expensive?

Any thoughts on whether the FCO-IAH offer is a good one?

That's a good deal (although domestic F on LH is just a Y seat with an empty seat next to it), I would take it. Your IAH-ORD has a decent chance for a CPU. ORD-FCO isn't bad. You could call UA to see if you can upfare the FCO-ORD legs to P (no change fee for upfares) which would allow you to get PQM/PQD. I have found that upfares are sometimes significantly cheaper than the segment UG offers.

Good Luck and welcome to flyertalk!

thanks, Zombie! I will try your suggestion to upfare to P.

I just booked SFO-FRA-HEL rt in PE / Y (PE for long legs operated by UA; Y for short leg operated by LH)

Was offered an upgrade to Polaris for $649 on outbound (currently booked into O). $$4285 on return (currently booked into A)

$649 seems like a good deal. I clicked "no thanks" because the T&C seemed to imply that it was not refundable should I cancel within 24hr. Already eyeing it on the "manage reservations" page..

Edit: Or.... 15k miles with no copay (waitlisted)... that seems like a good deal.

Return is 20k miles + $425 (waitlisted)

While this is technically true, multiple reports of getting it refunded in this case.

Upgrade offer more than F fare

I saw a flight for $240 Economy, $530 First.

Immediately after purchasing the Economy fare, I was offered $310 to upgrade to First.

Why wouldn't I just cancel (well within 24 hours) and buy the First fare?

You've put more thought into the offer than UA does.

Yep this happen and yes it makes no sense. The other option is a true upfare.

Or just call and upfare for no change fee (GG BUYUP).

I see this all the time, most recently LAX-SFO, where the fare difference was $74, and the upgrade was $104. Plus you get no PQD for the purchased upgrade.
