UA 220 A320 EWR-CLE 5/27 when I got to my seat put on the headsets and turned to channel 9, so sound but the other channels were on so I guess this meant no channel 9 or would they turn it on latter. No announcement at all. Should I have at least asked. Has anyone asked and had it turned on.

5/25 UA491 PIT-ORD ^ but no announcement.
I often have to crank up the volume to catch Ch9 because somehow it's sound level is much lower than other channels. Does anyone have the same experience?

Just FYI
Most Captains will turn it on if you ask however they normally keep it off because all you get is the first 15min and the last 30min of the 15 hour flight
everything else is done via SAT messages
Thus they prefer to let you have a music channel for the flight rather then static

I had the announcement by the purser on UA200 GUM-HNL on 5/27 (PMUA 772), but Ch9 was completely dead for the entire flight (no music, no ATC near GUM/HNL, etc.)

5/5: ORD-BOS: ^ 752, flight on-time, upgraded
5/5: BOS-EWR: n/a 735, flight way late, but I was bumped from the 6pm to this to make sure I'd get my connection, therefore "on-time" for me. Upgraded b/c re-booked in full Y into last F seat.
5/5: EWR-LAS: ^ 752, flight on-time even though it pushed back ~30 min late, upgraded

UA41 today FCO-EWR: asked if captain would turn it on and he, or FO, did right away over France. From Gander on in after the TATL part it was ***unavailable*** per the FA. I wish they would just take it out. All this silliness hardly makes it worth it. If it wasn't there, there would be no aggravation.

5/20 DEN-IAD ^ with announcement, but unfortunately IFE problems throughout the flight--resulting most of the time in the main screen movie audio being on every single channel to varying degrees of volume. FAs tried rebooting the system, etc.
6/1 IAD-SFO ^ on the ramp, afterward (no music, no Ch9, no nothing).
