I've not had Ch9 in at least two months. Nothing but that stupid music they play on the channel when the pilot decides not to turn on Ch9.
(FYI - the flight was a pmUA 752 so it had Ch9).

Recent Flights:
7/3: LAS-IAD: 319, flight on-time and upgraded at 2 day window
7/4: IAD-TPA: 320, flight on-time, missed upgrade #5 on list. Went out with multiple IDBs even though I wanted to be VDBed but the GA couldn't process it in <10 min so I could get on the IAD-LAS flight.
7/4: TPA-PNS: n/a Beech 1900, flight-on time, n/a upgrade - seat 1A which was great for taxi, takeoff and landing with the open cockpit door.
7/4: PNS-ORD: n/a, ERJ145, flight 5 hours late, causing a reroute. ORD-LAS 320 was upgraded before at the 2 day window (will count that for my upgrade percentage)
7/4: PNS-IAH: n/a, ERJ145, flight on-time, upgrade n/a
7/4: IAH-LAS: 752, flight on-time, made flight via standby so no upgrade

UA should make Ch 9 mandatory (during regular operations) or get rid of it.

UA 967 08/04 FCO-IAD ^ with no announcement.
This time, unlike my first channel 9 experience, I could only hear the ATC interaction, not essentially a "black box"-like recording of everything said in the cockpit. I don't think it was ever switched off, even over the Atlantic.

UA 775 7/27 SFO-HNL: Channel 9 on ^ with no announcement.
UA 351 8/5 LIH-SFO: Channel 9 off I asked FA pre-departure if the pilot would have Ch. 9 on. She said she thought it was on during the flight out but she went up to ask the pilot, came back and said no. I saw the flight deck crew boarding before the passengers and it was announced on board that the cockpit crew was based in DEN and the FA's were based in SFO. I assume that the pilot was different on the outbound and for some reason didn't want Ch. 9 on.

Not only was the ATC on but the capt also dialed in a local am station so we could listen to the updates from the mars rover as it was landing

All of my flights in July had Channel 9 (4 segments on UA). It was useful considering the weather was quite bad, and we had to circle for over an hour.
