I'm curious as you are referring to your daughter in Scotland... in the US I assume there is literally no type of contact tracing? Or is there?

I'm very much in favour of reopening, of reducing barriers to travel (especially for those vaccinated) but even in that frame of mind I'm finding the idea of 60k people at Wembley to be quite dangerous.

Despite being double (AZ) jabbed I tested positive by PCR today. Good job I went for one as I was about to fly to Ibiza where I only needed proof of vax. Just done my 4th home lateral nhs test in the last two days and all four have come back negative...

Got a small cough and feel absolutely fine.

Trust it will be no more than that but hope you feel better soon. Sorry to hear it scuddled your trip.

Did you have the test because you felt you might have it? Or was it because of the small cough you decided to test? Just curious....

I was at the pub for the football on Tuesday and two days later I have a cough. Better safe than sorry when the nhs testing site is next to my house.

I said before I’m a little suprised countries are allowing proof of vaccination to enter without a test, as there seems to be plenty of cases fully vaccinated people getting infected

My commisserations as well, I hope you get over it quickly, the chances are you will lose the cough fairly quickly, but you also want to avoid any other infections for the next few days. You did the right thing, I guess a Lateral Flow would have shown you as positive too, but you probably prevented others, including those not vaccinated, from getting infected, so this is very much to your credit. I'd hope that a Lateral Flow test would also have shown you as positive, in the circumstances. It's not that common for those double vaccinated to get Delta, and the assumption is that having milder symptoms would reduce transmission, but clearly you don't want to be ill when flying, or visiting an area will lower levels of vaccination.

I had a cough just over a week ago, but no sign of fever. Temperature where I was is checked multiple times each day. I had been in meetings with quite a few unvaccinated clients, so I was a bit concerned. Luckily a PCR came back negative and no one that I was with has had any problem. It is easy to think the worst with every cough or sneeze or when feeling a bit hot at night! I hope you are fully recovered soon.

Thanks

If by LFT you mean the rapid antigen tests the government hands out to do at home, I’ve done 4 (including one an hour ago) and they have all been negative.

Not uncommon indeed for Delta infections to happen in those fully vaccinated - the main saving grace is that those infections tend to be far milder than they would have been otherwise, leading to a reduced risk of hospital admission. Given how infectious the rotten thing is anyway, even a big drop in transmissibility still means that it's still pretty easy to spread around.

I hope you get well soon! If your PCR comes back positive, these lateral flow tests won't fill me with much confidence alas.

Hi,

I have just ordered yesterday the NHS Rapid antigen tests for home ( and arrived today). Also has the PCR test done monthly as part of the University of Oxford/ONS survey ( and get a £25 voucher for doing the survey) ( all the ONS tests done since Jan have been negative) Will test myself after getting back from 2 weeks in London.

Regards

TBS

The PCR is positive

The problem this presents is that a lot of people do not realise how unreliable these home tests are and consider themselves good to go despite circumstance or symptom if they come back negative. If I’d followed them without PCR I would of been spreading it on two flights and 7 days of bars over the next week.

Be careful with PCR's though, in some cases its just dead virus, I know people who've tested positive weeks after the first infection and no way they are still infectious after all that time. That's why lateral flows are better, as they are less 'aggressive' for finding small amounts of virus lying around.

That's why this testing obsession needs to stop, don't test asymptomatic people!

I agree that it's a really frustrating and far from ideal situation. Equally, it's important to remember that up to a third of people infected with Covid are asymptomatic - and that has driven, and will continue to drive, transmission by a significant amount.
