Some may disagree but I think the fact that Grant said the list will be released within the next fortnight says there is no meaningful discussion in government about delaying May 17. If there was, that would have been the focus of the message. As the list was always going to be based on teal time data, there is no reason to release a list that wouldn’t be relevant for weeks or months (despite pleas from the travel industry to have done just that already).

Edited to add: here is what Grant Shapps said this morning: “There will be four factors that we will be looking at when we look at a country: we will be looking at their rates of vaccination; we will also want to look at the rates of coronavirus in that country; how many concerns there are about various mutations of the virus in that particular place; and how accurate we believe the reporting to be.” |

Presumably, the information would be taken from your NHS medical record, so you'd have to ensure that that is updated with your vaccination information.
I'm unclear about which app will be used. The Reuters story above says that it will be the NHS coronavirus app, but also says that it will be the app you use to make NHS appointments. Are these the same thing? I don't have either, as I use Patient Access to manage my NHS appointments and prescriptions, and am wondering which one I should install. https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/u-k-...al-travel.html |

I think the risk is less that the 'ban' doesn't lift on May 17 and more that the list of green countries is so small as to be effectively meaningless.

I don’t think that’s meaningless. Even if the government says travel ban lifted but no where is green yet, that is a huge step forward. Many people want to travel for reasons that aren’t essential and are willing to do so even if amber restrictions apply. Count me in that group.
Portugal in late May, however, is looking very promising . |

Personally I would travel to the US under 'Amber' as long as quarantine was limited to 5 days and a single test. Would not take a family trip under those circumstances though. And it sounds as if Biden wont let us in until late June anyway, for reasons that make less sense by the day .

It will not be the COVID app. Have a look here for some information and the hoops you need to jump through for the regular NHS app:
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/u-k-...al-travel.html Friends and family mock me for luddite tendencies when it comes to apps, installing them setting them up and using them. But I managed to set up both NHS apps unaided and with little fuss. My only hoop was getting my NHS number, as my GP surgery set up some security sub-hoops before providing it. I neatly avoided all that when i found the number referenced in just about every piece of medical correspondence I've received and filed. The only inconvenience is that I now have a confusing abundance of apps relating to NHS services and records. |
I've got both NHS apps installed now. I just need the vaccines.

First day trip since October!!
Hi,
Today was the first time I have left my local authority area since October as I took the train into Glasgow! ( been WFH and no need for essential shopping) as I helped my mother go to the eye clinic for her post eye op review ( the op was yesterday and it went well altough her eyes stung afterwards for a while) Went into the new facacde of Queen street station ( very nice) then with time to kill went to Caffe nero nearby for an hour then walked down Buchanan street then to St Vincent Street for her appointment. Afterwards ( best trains back were only hourly) we walked dowm Sauchihall street and through Buchanan galleries and had a sandwich and coffee in the John Lewis cafe before the train back. Streets were fairly busy (Wednesday mid week) with the only qeues being outside zara. Trains were quiet and mask compliance good. It was very nice just to get a change of scenery and see the different shops in Glasgow. Regards TBS |
Looks like my daughter can't download the NHS app without changing her region which she has avoided doing to now so as to stay in our family sharing group. Apple has apparently not contemplated trans region families.
She went in to London Saturday for the first time since fall and was unfortunately on the train with a ton of unmasked protestors. She walked 24 thousand steps she was so happy to be out and about. Lunch on Hyde Park and some shopping! |

https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/u-k-...al-travel.html I still had the credentials that my GP surgery sent me when I set up the Patient Access app, and was able to set up the NHS one in no time at all. |
I sceptical about the use of the NHS App as a valid solution for providing vaccination status, at least in it's present form. And have little faith in the ability of the NHS' IT development teams fixing something up in two weeks (though that is just one Agile sprint...)
Right now, you need to log into the App, and then further agree to access to your digital health record. This requires a data connection, which may not be a problem in the EU (assuming that data roaming is still free) - though wonder about getting a good connection in the bowels of airports where customs and immigration often are located. As well, my surgery doesn't seem to use the "My Medicines" section, so the only place my vaccination is recorded is as a consultation - which requires scrolling back and back until I find the specific event. I really do hope Grant Shapps has something better up his sleeve (though given his history... 🙄 ) |
What actually are the amber restrictions likely to be? I am still in Sweden but thinking about coming back to England once things loosen up there.
|
If Portugal is open from mid May that would be a great time to go but I get the feeling it’s going to be harder returning than it is going there.
