The bank is only on the lookout for a $100 or $85 charge from DHS. Bank doesn't see who the application is for.

Have a question about NEXUS, and hoping this is the right thread to ask...
Question...I thought the application fee was/is C$50...did I miss a price bump to C$59 somewhere? |

According to Canada Border Services Agency: http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/prog/nexu...mande-eng.html, application fee is Canadian or US $50. C$59 could very well be a typo.

Thanks for the reply. Everything I read, including your link and the very application I signed, indicated $50 Canadian. I guess I will wait to see if there is a receipt included with the conditional approval. I'll probably have to get ready to call CBSA to reverse some charges.

Or you can dispute with your credit card company.

Can I (Canadian resident) use the NEXUS lane (land border) when I am over the duty free limit on goods I am importing into the US? I want to take some Canadian beer to a beer fan I am visiting in the USA.
This says there is a one liter duty free limit on alcohol, but I want to bring more (and of course declare it all and pay any applicable duties/taxes.) But I cannot find any information about this being allowed or disallowed in the NEXUS lane. Thanks. EDIT: OK Never mind, I found this in the program booklet that seems to have largely disappeared from the web but managed to find it here: http://publications.gc.ca/site/archi...1-2014-eng.pdf If you are a Canadian or U.S. resident and you are importing goods for your own personal use, you may use the NEXUS lane and make an oral declaration to the CBP officer. If you declare items in excess of your personal exemption, you will be referred to the cashier to pay any duties or taxes owing on the excess amount, if applicable. |
Just a tip for exceeding your exemption and paying duty/tax in a Nexus lane
i was told that while you can do this, they prefer you NOT use a nexus lane. The officer said they have to write up a slip, call secondary, and it delays the Nexus lineup from moving fast in the time they do the above they could probably wave through 5+ cars. So I can see what he meant i did notice they seem a little less friendly once you declare over your exemption in a Nexus lane now that I think about it. So so use a regular lane if it isn't busy. If there are 10+ cars in the regular lane then I still go through Nexus. But if lines are short I zip through the regular one. |
I'll be crossing at Blaine, WA on a Saturday. Waits at the regular lanes will be 1-2 hours long. Maybe longer, because the solar eclipse visible from Oregon will be two days later. I'll be using the NEXUS lane and declaring the excess. According to this, the taxes payable will be less than $1.

One FTer complained to Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase credited him his $50 NEXUS fee.

I think that will be the backup plan. I would like to try to resolve it with the merchant/CBSA first. I would hate for there to be a misunderstanding in a dispute process and for any trouble to arise with the conditional approval...all over C$18.
On the other hand, not sure how they input these charges - if they have a menu or something like that, but $59 vs. $50 seems like it could have very easily been fat-fingered - though having it happen twice is odd, and you'd think they might have a menu to choose from, but who knows. Supposed to be $50 US charge if done through GOES, but $50 Canadian if mailed. Unless something changed somewhere. |

So I'm flying in 2.5 weeks and just noticed that one of my ID documents on my Nexus/GE expired, namely my driver's licence. GOES shows "documents expired", even tho Nexus itself is valid until 2022.
I get that to update this I need to drop-by the local Nexus office, which isn't a big deal, except.... I'm not sure I can get a new licence by the time I fly. So my question is A) can I replace my driver's licence with a different form of ID? I currently have my passport as primary and my Canadian PR card and Driver's licence as secondary. Is there another form of secondary ID that's accepted? I have a non-picture BC Resident ID, would that work? B) if only a driver's licence works, assuming I CAN get a new one before I fly - how long does it take to update the system and turn my Nexus card back active? 1 day? 1 week? Longer? Thanks! |
