Thanks. I'll have to give them a call again and double check. If that is the case, I might just get the iris scan in May in YUL.

Definitely worth double checking. I could have run into a misinformed person back then. Technically there's no reason why it shouldn't be possible, despite the inconvenience of having to cross the border to do it. Good luck and report back.

iris scans still required ?

My GF just had her Nexus interview at the Nexus Enrollment Center in Blaine, WA. All went well and her card is in the mail. One strange thing is that they did not do an iris scan and no one told her she needed one. Are iris scans still required by Canada? I find it strange they didn't take one during her interview or mention she should get one later.

BTW, my kids did their Nexus interviews at the Vancouver (downtown) Enrollment Center back in July. CBSA took an iris scan of my oldest kid (age 13) but not do one on my youngest kid (age 11), stating that he wasn't old enough. So perhaps iris scans are not strictly required?

An adult needs an iris scan to use the Nexus machines when entering Canada by air. The scan can be done on a drop-in basis at YVR (landside) or in downtown Vancouver.

I'm not sure how the 11 year old is handled in the Nexus lane in air mode, but I'm sure that someone else here can help.

Iris scans are only offered at Canadian locations. You could have driven up to the Surrey truck crossing to get it done. If you don't have one on file, then you end up having to speak to CBSA to verify identity upon entering Canada.

She didn't know she needed to.

Does that apply to entries by land? Or just airport entries?

That's odd. My daughters were 7 and 9 when they interviewed for NEXUS (at YVR), and while CBP did not take their fingerprints citing their age, their irises were indeed scanned by CBSA. They were 11 and 13 when they first used the iris scanner to enter Canada and it worked for both of them without a problem.

That is correct. But you are able to use the crew line.

I would double-check on this.

My undertanding, though granted from several years ago, is that adults with Nexus can't use it in air-mode at all without the scans. I would hate for someone to take this advice, then lose their Nexus over this. Maybe this has changed, and crew line is ok for adults without the scans, I would want to be sure though.

Kids under whatever age it is that can't have iris scans can use the crew line. It's how we have to present ourselves now with our <2 year old.

Yes. Thank you for the clarification. It is also my understanding that you can use the crew line if your kids do not have iris scans because they are too young. I am also uncertain if an adult member can use the crew line if they do not have an iris scan as I have never flown through a Canadian airport.

You should have been given a NO IRIS sticker by CBSA to affix to the back of the NEXUS card for those without iris scan whether it be kids or adults unable to provide a scan.

I have read that on this forum but I never received the sticker. I interviewed in Detroit over 3 years ago. I cross land borders occasionally, but have not had a chance to get a scan yet.

NEXUS Interview experience was GREAT!!

I am a US citizen with global entry and wanted a nexus card as I expect to travel to Canada by road often for business. The application process was very easy from my GOES site and got an interview appointment for a time convenient to me at Vancouver airport. This location is open all 7 days and had many appointments open while other locations had even a six months wait. I had an appointment early morning and was called in at exact time given. I was first interviewed by a very nice US Immigration officer who verified all my application details and asked why I wanted a NEXUS card. My picture and finger prints were taken and I was asked to go out and wait. In about 5 minutes the Canadian officer called me in and verified all my details and asked me why I wanted a NEXUS card and said I am approved and I had to go out for my IRIS scan at the reception desk. I had to remove my contact lenses for the scan but was told it will work at airports with my contact lenses on. The whole process took like 20 minutes. Both the officers were very nice and very efficient. I had taken my US passport, proof of residence in US, my business documents like my US professional license etc but only my passport and global entry card was taken and photocopied/scanned. I was also asked to send by email a scanned copy of my US naturalization certificate. After my interview in about 30 minutes I got an email from my GOES site and it had an approval letter. My NEXUS card came in mail in 4 days. I am impressed by the efficiency and the excellent service I got from the system and all the people I met during the interview and scanning process. So if you have a genuine need and no criminal record getting a NEXUS card should be a fairly easy process.

NOTE: Due to construction at the Pearson Airport, the Toronto NEXUS Enrollment Center will relocate to the Airport's Emergency Service Center building (AESC) on 6/6/16 If you schedule an appointment after 6/5/16, please report to this location.
Is there an easy way to get from YYZ to AESC? I plan to take the UP Express to YYZ, but then somehow need to get to AESC. Any idea how to do it?
