Nexus Renewed and Card Received
Just an update on my data point with the turnaround time for post interview approval and receiving the card…
Date Applied for renewal: approx mid May 2022 (card had expired in 2018) Date of Conditional Approval: Sept 8, 2022 (interview required) Date of Interview: Sept 24, 2022 (approval notification came within 2 mins of leaving building) Date Card Received in Canada: Oct 5, 2022 I realize others have been waiting longer than a year for conditional approval but my experience wasn’t that bad. I was really unnerved by reports of backlogs. It was inconvenient having to do a guérilla 15 hour return trip on a discount airline ($84 return fare plus car rental) to get to the interview. Other than a bit of a jerk CBP agent when I crossed to the US, it was seamless. I managed to get some quick shopping done and it wasn’t an awful way to spend a Saturday. In 2013, I waited nearly 3 months to get my original conditional approval notification and then another month to do the interview after snagging an earlier interview slot my nearby Canadian airport. The timeframe was similar 9.5 years later and in the face of serious backlogs. Have faith on your renewal applications and may the odds be ever in your favour on quick approval for new applications. |

Yes, I see that in mine, but hasn't that been there since they took away the interviews in March 2020? It doesn't indicate the period of extension, nor does the linked FAQ address this point at all. Prior e-mail communications indicated a 2 year extension, so I'm wondering if they're going to update that.
Due to a significant increase in application volume, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is extending the grace period from 6 months to 1 year for any Trusted Traveler member who has a valid membership and who has submitted a renewal application. This means you will continue to receive full benefits for 1 year while U.S. Customs and Border Protection is finalizing your renewal application. |

Thank you for your post. What is the expiration date of your new NEXUS card? Is it 2027?

I just wanted to pass on my experience so folks are aware.
Background: US citizen, renewed NEXUS 03/20 (had to interview) and finally got that in 08/22 My TTP website was showing approved the same day. GE worked just fine in USA. So I show up at YYZ last weekend and nexus card doesn’t work @ machine. I go to the Canadian agent who shrugs his shoulders and checks my passport and gives me the yellow sheet with no declarations. A few days later, same thing happens so I go to an agent again. He tells me my NEXUS is showing as ‘cancelled’ and grills me about why it’s cancelled, what did I do, etc. really!?! Finally got through I called the Canadian NEXUS line yesterday. Very nice lady said that there have been instances where folks who had to wait extended periods of time to interview have been cancelled/not updated on Canadian side. She pushed through the update and said it would take a few days and would call me back when it’s done. just wanted to pass this on in case other people have this happen to them. Quick Update: Got a response already (1 day) from the lady who said it was updated on the Canadian side as "active" so hopefully it won't be a problem again! |
August 22nd, 22: Applied for renewal
October 13th, 22: Conditional Approval Nov 1, 22: Interview Scheduled Note: I live in Vancouver, so Blaine is the closest NEXUS enrollment center. I had to recheck the availability many many times, before an appointment for the interview magically appeared and I grabbed it. Good Luck to All. |
I submitted and paid for my renewal (second time since being a nexus member) May 5 2022 and it’s been stuck on pending review since. I’ve seen on here people are applying august and already approved and a friend told me they applied in June and already have a conditional approval and interview.
is anyone else stuck on pending review? I’ve been a member since 2012 no issues. Canadian citizen in Toronto. |
So I expired in Jun 2020. Condotionally approved in Apr.2021. Had appointment scheduled for Jan.2023 (within 2 years). No issues with nexus/GE throughout.
Today I got a status change email. Uh oh. But it went to fully approved without interview expiry 2026. Wife same scenario but a year behind. Same email at the same time. Now expiring 2027. I guess that's one way to clear the backlog of appointments.... |

Oh yes, many of us renewers have been in Pending Review limbo for months and would like to know why. Fortunately, having applied for renewal before expiration, we can continue to use Nexus (incl. Global Entry and PreCheck) long (five years, according to some reports) after our current membership term expires. The only downsides for me are having no idea when I'll be able to interview at a conveniently located enrollment center, and the risk of having my Nexus card rejected as backup ID because its expiration date has passed. On the plus side, it sounds like more and more renewal applicants are having their interview requirement waived, even after they are conditionally approved.
my child’s expired September 2021 and I started her renewal in I think January or February 2021. We finally have one interview for her April 2023. when we landed in Montreal and used the Nexus lane as a family with two nexus kids no iris the agent gave me trouble for her card being expired and I told her I have an interview in April. She seemed oblivious that benefits are extended. I could have logged in on the spot to show my proof of interview but for my next flight with my child I’ll print the dashboard 🙄 and the nexus 800 number told me to also print my credit card statement showing I paid but kids don’t pay. |
