It seems like the recommendation is to renew NEXUS as early as possible?
NEXUS expiry: 1 August 2019 Submit for NEXUS renewal: 1 or 2 August 2018 Approval for NEXUS renewal: 20 November 2018 (let's assumed as such) Will the new 5 years NEXUS clock begins on 20 November 2018, or will it begin on 2 August 2019? In other words, do i lose "some days or months" from previous 5 years validity if I apply and got approved too early? |

TTP renewals are for 5 years past your current expiration date. By renewing close to T-364, your new expiration date will be closer to six years from renewal.

I see someone here submitted their renewal application in May yet still has not received it. Are there others for whom this has taken a long time? I submitted my application Jul 6th and my birthday (and Nexus expiration date) is Aug 6th - looks like I left things rather too late :(
What happens if the renewal application is not processed by the time the old one expires. Does one have to start again with a new application or is one just out of luck until the renewal is processed? |

As long as you have started your NEXUS renewal process, you have up to six months from expiration date to use your current NEXUS card. Next time, renew T-364 days or 7 Aug 2022.

<redacted> My question is - If I apply for the renewal, is my membership back to active? I drive from USA to Canada about once a month, and I don't want to take the nexus lane if I might get bumped to secondary inspection... |

Sorry, but are you sure? I found out the hard way a couple weeks back trying to use my global entry benefits arriving at YYZ that my Nexus+GE membership expired... The machine told me my card was invalid and to see the agent.

One poster reported not all officers are aware of this "up to six months" extension if renewal process began prior to expiration. https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/det...YnBqVlk1UW4%3D |

No personal experience, read from other posters. Key is you have to renew before expiration date.

Thank you very much for the link! Unfortunately, I discovered my expiration too late. However, I just submitted my renewal. Next time I cross the border (in 2 weeks), I'll ask the agent to check if my Nexus card is valid or not... I'll report back if positive.

Applied May 22, 2018
Renewal completed Aug 2, 2018 (no interview needed) |
Applied for renewal May 20th. Still waiting (but I don't expire until November).
I have only been to the UK since last application (other than Canada, of course). US Citizen. |
Anyone who's interested in renewal timelines: it took less than 40 days for my 2nd renewal to get processed. Just like the first one, no interview necessary ^

Approved today

Expiration 6-30-18
Renewal Application 5-27-18 Conditional Approval 8-10-18 (interview required) 75 Days processing time and interviews not available in Calgary (my most frequent Destination in Canada) until mid-October :( I was really hoping I wouldn't need to interview since I don't live near any enrollment centers and often travel to Canada on pretty short notice. Unfortunately, I've had a lot of travel to Saudi, Bahrain, and other "fun" places over the last few years, so that may have been too much to hope for. Next time I'll apply early and not in the summer months or go for just Global Entry. |
