PSA — don’t submit your renewal application 366 days before your expiration.

I noticed that the Renew Membership link appeared around 7pm local the night before the applicable birthday (the web logic is probably aligned to UTC). I had some time and figured I might as well get it done. Unfortunately, after submitting and paying, I immediately got a letter in my account titled Cancellation Notification:
“Your application has been cancelled because it was submitted too early.”

I was able to submit (and pay again) after midnight ET. Doubt I’ll have success getting the extra fee refunded, NBD as I have more cards that reimburse this than I can use anyway, but figured folks should be aware.

Datapoint:

Renewed 6/2020 (to expire on 11/2020), went to conditional approval quickly, but had to do interview
Scheduled interview for 11/2020, got cancelled
Said interviews were back open again last Nov, so scheduled interview for 3/2022, got cancelled again
No interviews open for the forseeable future despite website telling me have to reschedule interview before 6/2022

Same boat here been booked and cancelled so many times it is getting ridiculous. Now my deadline is fast approaching in April 2022. Will Nexus extend our expirations again or just keep looking for appointments. Seems like new people applying are getting through quicker.

I thought someone said here this was not possible but did just find this on the nexus website: Once a traveler is conditionally-approved, instead of scheduling an interview at a Global Entry Enrollment Center, the traveler can complete the enrollment interview during CBP primary inspection at a participating airport. Upon arrival, the traveler will be directed to a primary booth designated specifically for Enrollment on Arrival.

This would be great if true, but the only reference I can find is for Global Entry, not NEXUS, so unfortunately I don't think this would work.

My wife utilized Enrollment on Arrival for her GE renewal, and it was easier than waiting for an appointment. NEXUS is more complicated since interviews are with both US and Canadian officers.

That is not applicable for NEXUS. Both CBSA and CBP have to approve NEXUS applications.

Mine was expiring Feb 2020. I renewed, was approved and was pending an interview since. Obviously, I couldn't secure an interview and my NEXUS expired in Feb 2022. No TSA precheck in the trips since. Guess I'll be adding Global Entry while I wait.

So it's 3/6, were you able to schedule one or did your status change on the website?

Interviews Open in Sweetgrass, MT

If anyone is desperate for an interview, Sweetgrass, Montana opened up appointments from March until September or later. Their next appointment is available on March 8. I guess some are skeptical as to whether these early appointments will be honored, but they were posted last Friday and they added interviews all day on Tuesdays and Thursdays for many months. I have a placeholder appointment booked for September. This would be a trek for most people. Nearest city you can fly into seems to be Great Falls, and Calgary is a 4+ hour drive away.

Can I cancel an existing appointment without rescheduling a new interview with a different office and just wait for a different office coming up?
I just wonder if cancelation of the interview means cancelation of my application itself...

No luck in scheduling anything yet although I saw the note about MT opening. Surprisingly, my application is still there even though it says it would be deleted on 3/6.

Yes you can cancel appointment and application will still stay there

Just managed to schedule an appointment for the Sweetgrass location. I will likely fly UA into GFT, though one could also take AC to YQL and drive down. It's about an hour away vs. two from GFT.
