Thought I would add another data point.

Joined NEXUS in 2016. Never used to cross Canadian border, but used as a travel document getting off cruises, at the DMV to get my enhanced drivers license, used the GE lanes once, and have used precheck quite a bit.

Countries: Japan, Haiti, Mexico, Canada

All Nexus cards are still active but passports linked to daughters (15 year old twins) accounts are both expired by about a month, sitting in Philly with millions (literally) of others waiting on renewal.

All four re-applications done on August 6th
All four approved, no interview, August 23rd
All four cards received today, August 30th.

This is with two of the passports linked to my teens accounts still technically expired.

When I renewed I put my new driver's license number in there (Washington changed all their drivers license numbers), still shows my old one. Once my daughters new passports arrive I will be making a trip to my friendly local GE office to update as the online update is clearly useless. Only adding this for future renewal info, not a topic drift. :-)

Just some data for future searches.

Another data point:
- February 11, 2021: Applied for NEXUS renewal
- April 2021: Became a US citizen and dropped my middle name; applied for US passport
- June 2021: Renewed my Norwegian passport
- July 2021: Received my very first US passport
- August 2021: Visited local Global Entry office (yes, this is for NEXUS) and updated name and citizenship information. They removed my middle name and my old Norwegian passport, and entered both new passports into the system
- September 7, 2021: Renewal application approved; no interview required

The Global Entry office warned me that they could not update the Canadian side of my NEXUS membership. That will have to wait until NEXUS offices reopen. However, updating documents on the US side was sufficient to ensure that my new NEXUS card was issued correctly:
- My former middle name is no longer shown. This is important, because the NEXUS card needs to match other travel documents
- My Citizenship has been changed from "NOR" to "USA". I still have both citizenships, but NEXUS will always display "USA" or "CAN" preferentially to any other citizenship held. (For dual US/Canadian citizens, it will display "USA".)

Perhaps I've invested too much effort into this, but I'm glad the new card was issued correctly. For those who want to attempt the same thing, make sure any OBSOLETE documents are removed during the GE office visit. My green card is still reflected in my profile, even though I surrendered it at my naturalization ceremony.

Well, first of all. Welcome to America. Second of all, you will never experience a 30 day turnaround on paperwork ever, ever again - so consider it a welcome to US of A present.
Pro Tip: Nexus and GC are interchangeable. Nexus is 50 bucks, GC, is 100. Apply for Nexus and save 50 bucks, and then you automatically have GC.

Pre√ being gone can be due to a number of factors, including TSA systems just being weird.
Another data point: I'm still in renewal with conditional approval, more than a year past expiration, and I'm still getting pre√.

I have an update on my saga here:
-Renewed NEXUS March 1, 2020 and received conditional approval a few days later pending interview (which is quickly turning into a dead end road)
-My TTP page still says conditional approval and interview must be done by 3/22/2022
-PreCheck stopped working in April so I got PreCheck separately with a new KTN and that has worked fine
-Global Entry has worked fine throughout UNTIL yesterday in MIA coming back from LHR. When I put my passport in the machine it said my membership had expired.

Any other related data points related to this and what I could do to remedy this?

Renewal times

My nexus expired in March 2021. I renewed it on September 4. How long is it taking these days to receive conditional approvals?

Thanks

txviking Sep 17, 2021 2:33 pm

Mine took 8 months. But I renewed before expiration. Others get it in a matter of days.

I went directly from conditional approval to full approval, btw. No interview required.

Thanks. It looks like mine’s mostly stuck especially given I applied 6 months after expiry.

Confused. Are you saying that application was conditional approval for a bit time before turning to full approval? Typically it goes from submission to review to either conditional approval or full approval.

Yeah, I could have worded that better. It was PENDING conditional approval from the day I applied (2/11/2021) until the day it was fully approved (9/7/2021.)

Anyone renew Nexus while arriving at a Canadian airport. I am going on almost two years waiting for an interview for renewal. Getting pretty ridiculous in how long this process has been. Saw something about doing some virtual interviews but have not seen that option as available for me.

What is new KTM? Likely in same boat still waiting for renewal/interview since 2019.

You need an appointment in order to do an interview. There are no appointments (physical or virtual) available as CBSA has closed enrollment centres until further notice

New Nexus NUMBER?

Thank you all for the invaluable help and data points. I've read pages upon pages but can't seem to find anything similar to what I'm dealing with.

Pre-COVID, when entering the US by land, I have been told several times to pull over and go in to the US CBP office. Reason: my NEXUS number is associated with a flagged, problematic individual from days past. How so? The US agents told me point blank, that they "recycle" the numbers, and I have been given one previously assigned to someone who had issues. They were as incredulous as I was.

I'm approaching NEXUS renewal.

1) When someone renews their NEXUS membership, do they retain their old number? If not, I'm thinking my problem is solved. But I fear that in fact, one keeps their old number;
2) Assuming one keeps their old number, does anyone have any tips on how to explain this to CBSA/CBP and get assigned a new number?

Pre-COVID I called and left a voicemail seeking help. Unsurprisingly, I didn't get a call back. Now I'm looking to ask an agent at an airport NEXUS centre, but my understanding is that these may be closed?

If anyone can share their thoughts I'd be grateful.

From looking at my own 9-digit Nexus number, there are 1 billion possible numbers so I can't see why they would recycle them. Even if the program explodes in popularity, they could just increase the number of digits or add letters or whatever. This is my first renewal and I would be stunned if my number changes. And how could you be penalized or found suspicious based on a number that THEY assigned you? Just makes no sense. Clearly you're a different person than this "suspicious" fella.

My guess is the agent either didn't know what he or she was talking about or there's something else in your file/background, not the number, that is triggering these pull-overs and they can't tell you about it. Which, if true, begs the question why approve you in the first place? Interesting issue anyway and I'm curious to find out how it ends.

My suggestion to you is to write to the ombudsman and explain the situation and include the statements made to you by the agent(s).

Good luck and report back what you find.
