Did not speak with an officer, but did this last week (my membership expired in August, had applied) at a Global Entry kiosk. The warning screen I have gotten for the past couple of months telling me that my membership was expiring still appeared, and said that my membership was expiring in "-15 days". I suspect the system is programmed to let you get up to -180 days, then cuts you off.

Data point from a friend: Applied for renewal Jun 25, approved Sep 19, no interview (exactly the same time period as Bram above). Also interesting, the TTP website says this:
Expiration Date: [T], 2023 You cannot renew your membership until [T-1], 2022. =aw |
still waiting
its officially GREATER than 3 months since I applied for the renewal, still no change in status :(

I’m glad I found this thread, as I was getting nervous. My Nexus expires late next month. I submitted my renewal in late July, and it’s still showing as pending. However, knowing that there’s a six-month grace period if you’ve already applied for renewal takes some of the stress away. I never received any kind of heads-up email saying my Nexus was expiring, even though I have received other Nexus-related emails in the past. My boss says he did get an email telling him to renew, and did so earlier this year. Is there any consistency in why someone would or would not receive an email alert to renew? |

Is there any consistency in why someone would or would not receive an email alert to renew? i think they do not send notices out because the logic is that anything regarding you and you personally (ie not a policy change affecting all members) has to be viewed thru goes, or what is now ttp.dhs.gov. and mailing stuff is a financial and environmental waste. i didn't realize my expiration until GE machine told me i have 14 days or something. renewal for me took 2.75 months, zero issues with my privileges on every end. ps how is the worldperks program these days? i sure miss those yqt-dlh runs on nw lol |
Finally...
NEXUS Renewal applied for July 3, Approved September 26. No interview required.
However, new NEXUS applications for child members with GE—Applied July 25, conditional approval September 12. Government processes are known not to be either extraordinarily consistent nor sensible. (Just as NEXUS is the best and, by far, the most inexpensive program for families with children!). |
For those who do not require an interview, how and when do you re-take the picture (if at all)?
I'm waiting for my renewal to be approved (and I doubt I'll be in the "no interview required" club given my prior arrest record), but I really need a new picture. |

my card was reissued a month ago (no interview) with my photo from 2009. i look way sharper and in better shape than i did then. i kinda take the oldness of this photo as a badge of pride, not that anyone even bothers looking at it lol. i mean, our identity is verified biometrically, not based on this backwards 19th century model of a visual check between a passport photo and what's standing in front of you. but hey we each do our own thing. good luck with your process. |

I stared at him and simply scratched my bearded chin without saying anything, since my photo is pre-beard. Fortunately it didn't come to me asking if he thought the GE kiosk made a mistake when it read my fingerprints. My bigger concern is that I use my NEXUS card for ID at TSA checkpoints in the US, and if a CBP officer decides that he's better than automated fingerprint ID verification, it is only a matter of time before I get in a Mexican standoff with a TSA agent: "This doesn't look like you. Do you have any other ID?" "That ID is me and it is valid, and is the only ID I'm producing for you." (rinse/repeat until I am allowed to pass or get tossed from the checkpoint) |

Using expired Nexus
Hi,
My Nexus expired last month and I started the renewal process before that happening, so I am wondering if I can still use it? I remember seeing somewhere that you can use it for 6 months after the expiry date IF you started the renewal process before. Any comments or experiences? Thanks! |

Next time, renew at T-364 to avoid any anxiety. |
