Museo dAntichit J.J. Winckelmann

The museum is located right next to the cathedral.

In addition to several excavations, the outdoor area mainly features ancient sculptures.

Kentograph for Johann Joachim Winckelmann, who was murdered in Trieste.

The museum itself mainly houses ancient works of arts.

Monumento ai Caduti di Trieste

Next to the cathedral, the Roman Forum and the fortress lies the war memorial for those who fell in the First World War.

You have a good view from San Giusto Hill.

In front of the fort lie the (sparse) remains of the Roman Forum.

Castello di San Giusto Trieste

Next up was Trieste's landmark, the Castello di San Giusto.

The interior design is not particularly spectacular, but quite nice.

You have a good view from the roof.

Finally, the Lapidarium of Trieste.

A good friend of mine has just been to Trieste a few weeks ago, it really seems a lovely place and was total off my radar until now. Thanks for sharing!

Jazzin Trieste

To round off the visit, enjoy a gelato at Jazzin. The gelateria has been awarded 2 coni by Gambero Rosso.

I really liked the gelato. Creamy and delicious.

Tivoli Portopiccolo

In the evening, we went back for dinner. This time, we were the only guests, and the atmosphere reflected that.

This time there was bread, but some of it was relatively dry.

Natural Bluefin Tuna Tartare

The cooked version didn't look too impressive, but it tasted good.

Orecchiette Pasta with Seafood Ragout

Peeling the prawns was a bit messy, but it tasted good.

Aquileia Piazza Capitolo

We went to Aquilila, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. First, we got an overview of Piazza Capitolo with the Basilica, the Baptistery and the Campanile.

Let's start in the baptistery.

The south hall is directly connected.

Basilica Aquileia

The showpiece is undoubtedly the basilica itself, where the famous mosaic floor was uncovered in 1909 under Bishop Poppo (if you can call your child that). Nowadays, the church is hardly usable, but it does have a magnificent floor.

Cimitero degli Eroi di Aquileia

As the last place of interest in the basilica area, we visit the heroes' cemetery behind the basilica.
