Slovenian Museum of Natural History

The Natural History Museum is located on the upper floor of the National Museum. It is certainly not a must-see and costs extra admission, I finished viewing it relatively quickly.

Tomb of National Heroes Ljubljana

The Tomb of National Heroes is located in the square in front of the National Museum. As I understand it, these are actually the graves of various people who were considered national heroes. Some of them were rather controversial figures who were involved in dubious activities.

Republic Square Ljubljana

Right nearby is Republic Square. It is not particularly attractive from today's perspective, with its monuments, high-rise buildings, a department store, the main event hall and, on the other side of the street, the Parliament.

Vigo Ljubljana

There is also ice cream in Ljubljana. Vigo was particularly praised by Gault Millau.

The ice cream machines in the window were particularly highlighted, and indeed they looked promising.

Very interesting flavors.

The ice cream was good too. Not top-notch, but definitely above average. That's quite acceptable.

Fetiche Patisserie Ljubljana

On the way (or rather detour), I stopped by Fetiche again to try the ice cream.

It was good, but nothing more. For a top-quality ice cream, it lacked a little creaminess.

JAZ Ljubljana

In the evening, we went to JAZ, Ana Ros's restaurant in Ljubljana. Ana Ros is the first female chef in Slovenia to earn three Michelin stars. In Ljubljana, she has established a somewhat more relaxed concept, and the restaurant has a distinctly casual atmosphere.

The Menu

Ana Ros's own cola as an aperitif

Selection of bread for two.

Pasta Asia-Adriatic, langoustines, kaffir lime lime, lemongrass

It was really good.
Anas favourite Waldorf salad, apples, celeriac, celery and lovage oil, semi-dried beets, walnuts and kefir dressing, a slice of Anas sourdough.

GF was very happy.
Seabass with miso, green peas, orange emulsion, mushrooms and strawberries

Excellent. Really good.
For dessert, Kobariki truklji, a typical Slovenian dish, was offered outside the menu.

Really good again.
The bill

I was very satisfied with the dinner; it's a lovely concept that has been well executed.

Bled Castle

In the morning, we headed to Bled. We started at the castle.

The castle has been rebuilt and serves as a historical landmark from the outside.

The chapel

The small museum

The view from the battlement

But the real highlight is the view of Lake Bled.

Yes, I know that customs differ. But throwing the whole roll of paper into the toilet? OK, if that's the norm.....

Lake Bled

At Lake Bled, the first thing we had to do was buy a parking space. At least, that's how expensive it felt. Then we headed for the shore.

The rowing boat was supposed to take us to Beleder Island in the lake. After some time, we finally set off, and it felt like an eternity. At least we could enjoy a few views along the way.

Wooden boats are the traditional way to reach the island.

There are a few steps from the jetty to the plateau.

On a tour around the island, you can look out onto the lake from the inside. However, you can also see the service lift and the buildings from below.

Yes, its right above the Lake. You see it in the next post from the Lake. The LAke with the castles is one of the most popular sights in Slovenia.

Lake Bled

Once you reach the top, you find yourself standing in front of the church tower. There is also a restaurant, and souvenirs and the best industrial ice cream are sold there. The queue was huge. Cheap stuff sold at high prices that makes hearts rejoice.

The trip on the Pletna boat only cost 18, so you're happy to pay again for the church, the tower and the museum. Even the toilet is one time free.

First to church.

The church is dominated by the golden altar, alongside which there are murals.

But the highlight is the wishing bell, which you are allowed to ring. There is a queue and it rings all the time. My wish was for peace and quiet to return. But I didn't have to make any noise to get it.

Lake Bled

Next, I went up the Campanile.

Bible verses accompany you along the way, some of which are particularly comforting if you suffer from vertigo.

Upstairs, they decided to put up a lot of railings. This doesn't really help the view.

The small museum

Lake Bled

On the way back (the 30 minutes felt like hours), there was at least something else to see.

The National Shrine Mary Help of Christians Brezje

The Maria Hilf pilgrimage church is the most important pilgrimage church in Slovenia. Outside, there are large areas for open-air services and devotions.

The interior of the church is decorated in pink, and the sacred image is located in a side chapel.

Breg Restaurant

In the evening, we went to Breg Restaurant, another Michelin Plate restaurant. It is a very traditional establishment. The dcor is rather rustic.

The menu:

Tuna crudo, watermelon

Pumpkin soup

Bread

Butter-poached red snapper

Linguine alla vongole

Pavlova

Tiramisu

The bill

It was a good meal at a reasonable price. Very nice.
