Ljubljana Walk

A short walk through Ljubljana. We start at Mestni trg.

The bridges of Ljubljana are well known, and from the riverbank you also have good views of the castle and the riverbank.

Prešernov trg with the Three Bridges complex.

The Dragon Bridge is another landmark.

Here, someone climbs onto the dragon platform and applies to be the village idiot of the month.

Fetiche Patisserie Ljubljana

It is one of the more exclusive patisseries in Ljubljana, and the prices are also quite high. Perhaps not quite Parisian prices, but that speaks to the absurdity of the pricing there.

Shambala Ljubljana

On our second evening, we went to Shambala, an Asian restaurant with a Michelin plate.
We took the tasting menu.

Lemonade

Amouse bouche

Viatnamese salad roll

Fresh and good
Grilled Black Tiger prawns - marinated in fresh herbs and chilli with mango sauce

Also good
Japanese miso soup with wakame seaweed and vegetables

Thai spicy soup Tom Yum with prawns and mushrooms

Both very good.
Ginger-marinated salmon filet - with lime, bell peppers, chilli and smoked potato puree

Good
Desserts

The bill

The food was good, so we could be satisfied with that.

Postojna Cave

The day started off terribly. Single-digit temperatures and rain galore. There wasn't much going on that day, so we decided to visit Postojna Cave (also known as Adelsberg Caves).

A combined ticket with Predjama Castle costs €46.50, so it's not exactly cheap. With the vivarium and museum, it's €56.50. Once you've passed through the ticket control, you head to the train that takes you to the cave.

The journey is fast and windy. The speed makes it difficult to take photographs, and some of the passages seem quite low. It doesn't feel too good, anyway.

From the parking area, we proceeded through the cave. The group consisted of approximately 300 people, making it a truly large-scale operation. There is a 90-minute tour of the cave, accompanied by an audio guide.

There is not only a souvenir shop in the large cave, but also a toilet. Considering the admission prices, it is somewhat outrageous to charge a euro for this.

We then took the little train back.

My son has been wanting to go to Slovenia. I may have to go just to see this in person!

It was in Post #24 above. Thanks to tom tulpe for the tip on the actual church. It appears to be about a half hour south of Trieste, so we may add a side trip from there to our journey.

We visited the Lipica Stud Farm in Lipica, Slovenia, also a short distance from Trieste and 40 minutes north of the church. It takes half a day to see performances of the Lipizzaner stallions who are commonly seen in Vienna. Well worth a visit.

This replica is at the Ljubljana Castle.

Lipica will be a few days later. In fact the one in Slovenia are not the actual in Vienna. They come from the Bundesgestüt Piber.Since GF hates skeletons and the church is only open irregularly from October onwards, I didn't go there.

Vivarium Postojna

In the vivarium right next to the cave, a few stalactites have been recreated, and you can also see olms.

Expo Cave Karst Postojna

The cave museum is said to be the largest exhibition on karst and the Postojna Karst Cave in the world. It is very informative, but it's not the end of the world if you haven't seen it.

Predjama Castle

Predjama Castle is one of the most famous sights in Slovenia. The rock castle is built into the rock and is often seen as a landmark.

From the inside, the castle is certainly not a cosy place; parts of it are open, exposing the bare rock. It must have been very uncomfortable, especially in winter. As it was raining and quite cold during our visit, we got a good impression of this.

Lipica

On Monday, we went to Lipica to visit the famous stud farm. I have to say, it wasn't the best idea, as the shows are closed on Mondays. So we only got to see the museum, the stables and a few horses.

Slovenian National Museum Ljubljana

The Slovenian National Museum is housed in a beautiful building, which was unfortunately covered in scaffolding. At the rear of the building is the freely accessible Lapidarium displaying antique pieces.

The central staircase behind the entrance.

On the ground floor, there are antique exhibits, including the famous golden statue.

In addition, there was an exhibition on the Neanderthal flute, the original of which is displayed on the first floor.

The largest temporary exhibition was dedicated to the Baroque period in Slovenia.

The upper floor continues with early history, where you can also see the flute.
