Minorite Monastery of St. Francis Piran
The former Franciscan monastery is located between houses, with a small square in front of it.

The church

The real attraction.

The most famous part of the complex is the cloister.

Several works of art are on display in a small room.

St. Maurus's Parish Church Izola
The next stop was Izola. We started at St. Maurus, a church located on high ground with a separate campanile.

Inside, it is a church that is quite typical for the area.

Then I went up to the bell tower and looked around a bit.

A gift from Izola
Let's get this out of the way first: I thought Izola was quite nice, but nothing special. Parking was difficult. When I went back to the car, a guy in uniform came up to me. When I got to the car, there was a parking ticket stuck to my windscreen. After searching around for a while, I found the sign saying that only residents were allowed to park there. Welcome to Izola once is enough.

How annoying! Italy certainly requires more research when parking than other European countries. You should expect a clear universal "no parking" sign with underneath an exception for residents, instead of obscure hard-to-notice signs of ambiguous format.
Thanks again for the great photos and explanations.

Tito Square Koper
The centre of the city is Tito Square. Apart from the name, there are a number of historic buildings including the Praetorian Palace, the Loggia and the Cathedral.

Miramare Castle Trieste
Just outside Trieste lies Miramare Castle, a neo-Gothic castle dating back to the 19th century.

As you might expect, it is a playful little castle.
