Getting ready to drive to EWR for a flight to Italy. Sat down, started the car, and thought, "I forgot my passport." Went inside to the sock drawer and the passport wasn't there. I found it hours after the plane left.

I was caught a couple times walking into the wrong restroom.. an honest mistake. I noticed when there was an absence of urinals, and females in the room.

Last year I was taking my first international trip in about 18 months. The night before I was to leave I put everything on a table that I wanted to pack, including my passport which I placed on top of a stack of books. The next day I drove over to my parent's house to catch my ride to the airport and I couldn't find my passport. I panicked and started to drive back to my place and still couldn't find it. Luckily, I forced myself to think logically and I realized I had put it in my bag with the books I planned to take. Wow was I sweating bullets though.

In the early 90s my wife and I took a group tour of China,on the final morning our group of probably 30 left our hotel room and got on the bus to the A/P.We sat on the bus for about 30 minutes going no where when a representative from the hotel got on the bus and announced that some of the rooms had items missing and unless these items were paid for or returned the bus was going no where. We sat for another 30 minutes until someone suggested we take up a collection (the amount needed was less then $200).It was only at that time that several embarrassed tour members went through their luggage and returned the items. Thermos's and horsehair clothing brushes

This has happened twice to me in Thailand. Once while staying at a motel I forgot which room I was in and opened the wrong room to find two people going at it. I quickly shut the door. Then again I was getting a massage and took a break to go to the restroom. I went back and opened the wrong room and there was some guy in there using a video camera with the massage lady. I quickly shut the door and could hear them locking it after me.

I've never had a really "embarrassing" situation happen to me, but a friend of mine once did something quite funny:
She was out of town at a conference, this was back in the 90's. It was 2 or 3 days, and she just had her roller carry-on. She left the hotel, got to the airport, and once she put the bag in the overhead, she realized it was very light...strange, but it was a short conference, so whatever.
Gets home, finds only her shoes in the bag. Turns out, she was rushed in the morning and somehow forgot to put all her clothes back in the suitcase! She had to call the hotel, who shipped everything back within a few days. She was quite embarrassed, and said that with her purse and briefcase on top of the roller, she really didn't notice how light it was!
Another fellow she worked with actually did the same thing about a year later. It was the topic during a company party a while later...
That was the last time for a loong time that she put clothes away in a hotel! Sounds crazy to some, but when you're tired, rushed, and feel like you've got the routine down cold, mistakes happen.....

Fortunately, my packing system is so rote that I'd packed it -- in fact, I'd actually unpacked it from my carry-on at check-in, then re-packed it -- I was just so fried that I couldn't recall.

I went on a business trip to Phoenix a couple years ago and got to the hotel to find I had not packed any underwear. Then, as I was going to put my pants on, I pulled too hard on my belt buckle and it broke off. I went down to the lobby holding my pants up (subtlety I hope) with my fingers and of course the gift shop didn't have any. The agent on duty at the desk was not helpful either, his only advice was I could wait until later when the shuttle was around and "maybe he'll drive you to Target".
Luckily a friend of mine I knew in town brought me emergency underwear and a belt. Trying to hold up my pants in front of all my colleagues was awful.

I've enjoyed these tales, now here's mine.
On an UNITED flight from LAX to DEN, my 13 month old son was sitting on my wife's lap next to me. We were in a holding pattern, it was snowing and it was bumpy. Suddenly, my son said "mommy sick" and vomited all over her. He was mainly unscathed, so my wife grabbed her long coat and went to the toilet where she stripped to her bra and panties and put on the coat. A flight attendant found a bag for her soaked clothes and she returned to her seat. When we got to the gate, she was escorted off first. Her parting remark, for all to hear, was "UNITED, where the hell are your friendly skies?"
The plane was a 707 I think. The year was 1965. The 13 month old has been a pilot for UNITED quite a few years now.

It was night time and I saw what I thought was a stamp machine near a Post Office in a city in France (Antibes if my memory is correct). I don't know much French but I got out my wallet and studied the writing on the machine. I was a bit embarrassed to realize that I almost bought a condom thinking that the machine would give me a stamp.
Which reminds of the time in Luzerne when I tried to mail a letter in the bin meant for dog waste. Blame it on jet lag but I did bring a smile to a couple of joggers.

At an airport recently, rushing to catch a flight. I'm walking fast in the terminal concourse and then I had the urge to use the restroom before i board. While walking fast, I turned-off to the nearest restroom entrance. Walked in and then wondered why all these women (I'm a male) were in front of the mirror putting on make-up. Well, it took half a second to realize that I had better make a silent 180 degree turn out of the alcove of the lavatory and slip out gracefully, hoping no one looked.
Fortunately, everyone else's eyes in the concourse were focused on gate numbers and less about where the restroom was and who was going in and out.
