My only goal is to get where I am going with minimal fuss and delay. After more than 3 million lifetime miles flown across many airlines, I cannot even begin to imagine a scenario where checking off dreary airports or yet another different type of sardine can is even a consideration, let alone a goal. Sorry!
It definitely matters how one pursues these little objectives. For example, one of mine has been to visit all 50 states in the US. Ten years ago I was at 40/50. I could have made a push for it and ticked off the last 10 in 2-3 years. But that's not how I roll. Ten years later I'm at 48/50. That's because I'm not in it just for box ticking. I've made my visit to each state meaningful by visiting something relevant to business or leisure interest. And I'm not made of money-- or time-- so I haven't been able to do an epic hopscotch across the last several.
In the same vein I also track which US airports I've been to (hence why I follow this thread with interest) but I don't go far out of my way to add to the list. It's more like, if I'm flying from A to B, and I have to take a connection at C, D, or E along the way, I'll pick the itinerary with "E" if I've never been there before and the cost and timing work.

I've flown a lot, too. I agree that there's a lot of dreariness involved in air travel. For me, making lists and keeping track of objectives such as these adds a small element of enjoyment. ... one of mine has been to visit all 50 states in the US ... I've made my visit to each state meaningful by visiting something relevant to business or leisure interest. ... I also track ... airports ... but I don't go far out of my way to add to the list. It's more like, if I'm flying from A to B, and I have to take a connection at C, D, or E along the way, I'll pick the itinerary with "E" if I've never been there before and the cost and timing work.
I went through North Dakota on last month's cross-country drive and have now set foot in all 50 states; my wife still has three to go (Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas; from a perfectionist standpoint Missouri is also on the list, since she's only been to St Louis airport)
I have yet to fly into or out of Arkansas and West Virginia (in addition to ND) ... while none of those lend themselves to more-or-less conventional routings, that won't stop me from trying to figure out how to make 'em happen at some point

1000th flight coming up soon, as will 2,000,000 miles a little later, still havent taken a single work-related flight in my life.
Countries count stuck in the 150s for now.
Will get all that out of the way in my 30s.

I guess I'll see how many on the list I've been to, but as far as a "flying goal", it's simply to reach 3 Million Miler status with Air Canada. I'm currently around the 2.5/6 MM range.

Alphabet
With a recent trip to QRO (Quertaro, Mxico), Ive now flown to/from an airport (code) starting with all possible letters.
Next goal, fly to the 100 busiest (by pax) airports in the world. Seems I will need to visit Antalya and India to do this...

Earlier this month I reached the 1,000-flight milestone. Mostly work related, 75% of them flown in the last 10 years. All going well, I should keep accumulating flights at a similar pace.
