I'm from NY and much of the city has gotten very boring to me, particularly the South Street Seaport after they tarted it up and made it into a shopping mall. Back in the day it was authentic and rustic.

Too many people are hating on Stonehenge, although I agree about the Mona Lisa. Nice little painting you can hardly see behind the glass.

Cape Town and Table Mountain, did not live up to the hype. The so called mountain is a rather uanttractive slab/rock and there are more spectacular views to be had in Austria for example.

The immediate beaches are not very appealing and the local airport is a joke. Trying to compare Cape Town airport to Tampa International is like comparing the Ritz to a dog kennel.

I know S Africans hold Cape Town dear to their hearts but trust me save your money and visit something really awesome like the Grand Canyon which will take your breath away.
Rio de Janeiro also looks far more spectacular and is billed as the most magnificent city in the world.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa. Longish drive from Florence, and fair walk from the bus then you see it. Once you have seen it that is it done. Doesn't live up the hype.

Almost scared to post my thoughts until I saw someone else thinks Table Mountain is overrated. It is not attractive in itself. Best thing is when its hidden in the fog.
Check out Antibes in south France or Hobart Tasmania which have more dramatic back drops but don't bang on about them.
You can visit The Lake District in England and get more interesting and spectacular vistas and without the crowds.

So a big thumbs down to Table Mountain and Cape Town. Visit the USA where they have lots of things S Africa doesn't like the Grand Canyon and New England in the fall. Lions, rhinos etc can be seen in Disney Orlando or Bush Gardens.

Stairs with a lot of people on. I didn't much enjoy St Peter's either. The outside is very impressive but inside it's dark and very crowded.

Rome in general is excellent though

Sun city , south africa

This is the poor man's Las Vegas.
It has a pathetic tiny casino and in no way is it fit to be called the Las Vegas of South Africa.

The hotels in Vegas are far more spectacular and opulent. It should aim lower and perhaps the "Butlins" of SA would be a more apt description.

Not one single well-travelled person has ever picked Hawaii as a top destination. The lure begins and ends with this: it's an international tropical place in the US, so you can drink the water.

To see real Chicago, you have to get away from the Loop and other tourist attractions and into the neighborhoods. It's a fantastic city.

You probably haven't traveled very extensively there? There are some islands that are quite spectacular when you're off the beaten path.....

I have my issues with Chicago (too many tourists, good chance of being murdered etc.) but anything in Chicago? The Chicago Art Institute is one of the best art museums in the world. Plus, as binarybelle lots of great finds in the neighborhoods.

Sorry, Hawaii is a s-hole. I am baffled why people spend the excess money/miles to get there. Other places in the world that are much better in appearance, cost and relaxation. I took my last trip to the islands this past October. I will never return again.

I've been to quite a few places.... but still like Kauai very much.

For me it beats the poverty and the expense of for example the South Pacific islands.....

But can you jump the fence in Disney or Bush Gardens, and get close to them, watch them kill something and then eat it?
