Difficulty checking award ticket availabilty

Using the terrific KVS Availability Tool (thanks so much, KVS), I am trying to check the availability of F and C/J awards on NZ. Using version 1.64, my fellow FTer, taupo, is able to do this. I, however, using version 1.2.9 am not.

Does anyone have experience with this?

It is likely that the NZ award classes you want are not available through ITN.

"1.64" is the current version of the "other" tool by smile67, which is also being referred to as "the tool" on FT :)

Thanks for clearing that up for me, KVS. I'll still be using your app. for other purposes, and I thank you for offering it to us FTers.

Well, it all depends... YYCOllie mentioned one of the factors. The wording of a request can also make a difference; your version (

FAQ: What's the "class" field for?

I've recently received this question from a user:

Q: What's the "class" field for (when searching using ITN)?

A: Class selection in ITN mode serves two purposes:
  1. It affects the order in which flights are listed in situations where a cabin class is completely sold-out.
  2. It is used to provide an appropriate seat map when using the "Book Segment/Seat Map" function.

Just one comment when using it to query BA flights. BA has 4 travel classes, Economy, Premium Economy, Business and First. When the results are shown, it goes from Busines to Economy. i.e. J C D I, then Y B H. BA has W and T (the fare buckets for Premium Economy) in between. Virgin Atlantic, also has a Premium Economy class, and those fare buckets aren't displayed either. I suspect it's a limitation of the underlying booking engine, rather than the tool itself, but thought I should bring it up.

And many thanks for making an excellent tool available to the FT community.

BA Availability & ITN

It is indeed a limitation of the ITN engine. However, it appears that:
  • First Class is shown (e.g. BA92 YYZ-LHR includes F/A availability).
  • Using ITN/UA access method will bring up additional Y-subclasses (e.g. V/N/L/S/Q/O) not shown when using ITN/AX.
