Seat Maps: we're currently not able to show seat maps for flights departing within the next 24 hours for several airlines: DL, BA, QR , ANA, B6, & JL
Searches currently not working:
- Upgrades - AY, BA, EK, EY, IB, QR, VS
- Awards - AY, BA, IB, EY, QR, VS
To search AA upgrades:
- Use the Award & Upgrade tool
- Only search for individual segments (set the "Connection Preference" drop-down to "Direct/Non-Stop only"). Flight results that are part of a connection won't show the upgrade version of C or A inventory because AA only files upgrade inventory as individual, not married, segments. (Married segments show revenue inventory instead of upgrade inventory.)
- To avoid confusion, check the "Exclude Codeshares" box, as AA awards and upgrades are not valid on codeshares.

So I'm here at ORD standing at gate K2 with 15 minutes till departure, my laptop open to EF, staring at the standby list for an AA flight to DFW. EF is still showing 2 seats left in coach but the gate agent is saying that every seat is taken. AA.com is also showing 2 seats for sale.
Any idea why this might be?

ef (expertflyer) "error" dfw-lga 08/25/13
I'm on aa 732 departing dfw-lga at 12:20 pm. [I was searching to see how many f seats were available].
If I set the time for flights after 7:00 am, 732 is NOT listed (though earlier and later (than 12:20 pm) ones are.]
If I set time to 11:00 am, 732 IS listed.

If you were using the regular search option, then it is unusual and I would contact EF.
MODS: Please merge w/existing EF thread

Sometimes American will return just two flights where the requested award seat availability is zero on both flights, even when there are later non-stop/direct flights scheduled. This is American's way of indicating that none of the later flights have available inventory for the request class either.

multiple prices same Booking class / booking code
I did a Fare search lir-ewr 09-14-13 return 10/21/13 and came up with a SLX53BQ1 fare on AA of $196 as well as a second S fare SLW53BQ1 of $376. I looked up the AA fare basis codes online and got:
X: not on Fri or Sun
W: Sun 12:01a-Mon 11:59a, Thu noon-Sat 11:59a
Since the 14th is a Saturday and the S outbound flights available are all after 11:59a I figured I’d get the SLX fare but when calling AA they only had the W price. Does that make any sense? Why would that fare even be available on that day/time if its against the rules? Maybe there was a 3rd S fare that didn’t appear in the Fare Information search? I called back and asked specifically for SLX53BQ1, the agent told me she had it available certain days but they all priced out higher. (which I confirmed on EF)
X: not on Fri or Sun
W: Sun 12:01a-Mon 11:59a, Thu noon-Sat 11:59a

SLX53BQ1 - PERMITTED MON THROUGH THU FROM THE GATEWAY.
SLW53BQ1 - PERMITTED FRI THROUGH SUN FROM THE GATEWAY.
Since you're leaving on a Saturday but returning on a Monday, the days you specify apply to both rules. If you go to AA.com and actually price out flights for the dates you want, you'll see that both fare rules are used, one for the departure flights, and the other for the return flights.

wow thank you for the fast response! I guess I need to read the rules, I thought the validated results would have caught that. Does that mean the AA Fare Basis Code key I found here was incorrect? (3rd position X: not Fri or Sun, W: Sun 12:01a-Mon 11:59a, Thu noon-Sat 11:59a)

Because the reservation system couldn't determine what the surcharges were based solely on the fare rules. This happens when the surcharges are flight specific, aren't in the Surcharges section of the rules, or otherwise require pricing a specific itinerary to properly determine.

We just did an Award search and see AA 732 without issue using the default 12AM search time. Since you didn't mention which award class you were searching for, or post the results, we can't replicate whatever it was you were seeing. However it sounds like the flights didn't show because there was no award availability on several of them today. As we note in the help for the Award search results page, and has been posted in this thread before:
If you have a question about a specific search in the future please email us at [email protected] so we can help you faster, thanks.
