--------------------

Searches currently not working:
  • Upgrades - AY, BA, EK, EY, IB, QR, VS
  • Awards - AY, BA, IB, EY, QR, VS

To search AA upgrades:
  • Use the Award & Upgrade tool
  • Only search for individual segments (set the "Connection Preference" drop-down to "Direct/Non-Stop only"). Flight results that are part of a connection won't show the upgrade version of C or A inventory because AA only files upgrade inventory as individual, not married, segments. (Married segments show revenue inventory instead of upgrade inventory.)
  • To avoid confusion, check the "Exclude Codeshares" box, as AA awards and upgrades are not valid on codeshares.

This is due to an airlines ability to show different availability based on the point of sale. Did you change the Point of Sale of the Flight Availability search to UK instead of USA?

Am I reading this fare right (JAN-CHO 20140708 RGAVNA6)

Results from ExpertFlyer.com

Should I be able to fly JAN-CLT-CHI-CLT-CHO and back with this fare? I was able to find bookings on ITA with that fare basis, but couldn't find any that would let me backtrack through CLT.

Is this something I'd need to get a travel agent to book?

That's what I learned. Thanks for your time to look into this confirming it - time to renew my annual subscription to EF

You can ask, but it's also possible there aren't the proper flights operating in a day to make that itinerary work.

Does EF have any plans to add a MTC feature to the tool - unless it already exists and I missed it?

What does CRCYMG mean?

What does CRCYMG mean? I consistently see it at the end of the auto reaccom line.

So, sorry if this is the wrong thread for this, but very new to EF, born out of a curiosity to figure out upgrade chances on an upcoming (two days) US metal flight bought through AA.

Having trouble understanding whose inventory number to believe. At this moment:

1) US.com and AA.com will sell 6 revenue tickets
2) EF shows F6/A6 for US and F7/A7 for AA (same flight, just different numbers)
3) EF seat map shows only 5 F available (including blocked) on the US version and zero available on the AA version.

What am I missing here? Sorry for the newbie question and/or incorrect thread for this post.

Hi arlflyer, welcome to ExpertFlyer. First, the seat map is not an indicator of ticket availability because you can have sold tickets without seat assignments, so put that aside.

The availability values are "at least" that number. So US may only be publishing a maximum of 6 but AA publishes a maximum of 7 for their fare classes. Also since AA is the codeshare partner here, they may not have the most accurate inventory count, so go with the operating airlines published numbers.

That being said, if you have AA elite status then being upgrading on a US operated flight is more complicated then just how many seats are available, since priority may be given to US members first. However F seems seem fairly open assuming we're talking about a domestic flight with a smaller coach cabin.

I understand it in the direction you describe (tickets sold but seats not assigned), but what would account for what I am seeing in the other direction - seats assigned that haven't been sold yet? I don't know the inventory management system on an algorithmic/programming level but doesn't that indicate that somewhere something is saying those seats have been sold or given away or otherwise occupied?

This makes sense. I've had a whole mess of AA/US issues with this itinerary, outside the scope of this discussion, but they integration has not been seamless on this one it will suffice to say!

Agreed, but my understanding is that I'd have a shot at least starting at T-24, and it is also my understanding that US is pretty good about upgrading its own elites at the open of the windows. I've seen F inventory drop after the 7, 4, and 3 day windows opened. I suppose there could be a bunch of Silvers at the 2-day window, but barring that, I'd think I have a chance, no?

Appreciate it!

I would appreciate an update on EF efforts to:

1. Restore searching award availability for UA and other missing Star carriers.

2. Add availability for US, including itineraries that include AA and other One World partner metal.

Thanks very much.

We are actively working on both and making progress, however we would not be able to announce anything specific until such a feature is ready to be made public and available. Thank you for your patience.

You've been "actively exploring and making progress" for almost a year now, it's why I let my subscription expire. If you've got nothing, at least be honest and say so.

That is not the case, but we can't share anything at this time.
