Wififofum has now been updated to work with IOS 5.x. As far as I can tell it is the only working WiFi tool for the Iphone running IOS 5.x.

My favorite app for traveling
 

Best Travel Offline Maps - lets you use maps without data/roaming. Really helpful considering there are only two alternatives:

1. Pay through your nose for low quality data connections (something like $20 for 20MB in Italy for ex)
2. Pay $20+ for a GPS app
3. use a free paper map and spend 2 minutes 20 times a day to locate yourself

Or buy a local SIM and use with Mifi.

Then besides being able to use Maps or any other mapping application, use a number of other "outdoor" apps which use the GPS, digital compass, camera.

Map App for Cruise Ship Use?
 

Mrs. Middle_Seat and I plan to take an Eastern Mediterranean cruise later this year. Is there a good GPS-enabled map app (either Android or iOS) that would allow us to determine out location and what is on the nearby coast?

Due to the very high wireless costs on a cruise ship, it should not require internet or cellphone service to function.

Multitasking won't work on iPhone 3G at all, though it will on 3Gs and higher.

Draw Something is a great game. Back and forth Pictionary, much fun. "Challenge" me if you want, same username as FT handle (not really a challenge as you are on the same team in effect).

I literally just downloaded it last night upon the recommendation of some coworkers. You'll probably have a game here in a few minutes. ;)

Anyone who wants to find me can prepend "alaskan" to my handle. Now you all can see what a crappy artist I am--my stick figures look bad! :D

iOS 5.1 is released - do not upgrade
 

If you have a JB iPhone or iPad, DO NOT RESTORE or UPGRADE. You will lose cydia and all your tweaks. If you are having problems with stability, here's one potential trouble-shooting tips:

1. If you install something in cydia that causes your device to not boot, you have to restore, you will be stuck updating to 5.1. Therefore, I suggest you get SSH installed and learn how to use it. If your device is in an unbootable state, you can fix it via SSH. With SSH installed, you can get further help in our irc channel (irc.thebigboss.org, #ios).

2. Troubleshooting your device without restore:
If you encounter issues on your device like things are not running stably or such, rather than restoring, try to debug the issue. Here are my suggestions:
1) In cydia uninstall mobile substrate. This will remove many things. Allow that. Reboot the device.
2) After this, test the device. Is it stable? If so, move to step 3.
3) Reinstall one tweak of your choice. Only one. This will reinstall mobile substrate as well.
4) Test with just that one tweak until you’re satisfied your device is stable.
5) Repeat steps 3 & 4 with one tweak at a time until you find one that makes the device unstable. Remove that one only and continue on.

iPhoto looked great didn't it? I was going to get the new iPad anyways but now, I may get a Camera Connection Kit as well.

But is there any reason to use iPhoto on the iPad if you already use it on your Mac?

Not really. And it appears importing and creating albums on the iPad is pretty limited.

But it looked fun and the Photo Journals feature looked cool.

iPhoto on iOS is a nightmare. i prefer the lion version of it on an actual system. but then again, each to their own and depends what your doing it for.
