WiFi/firefox problem
I bought my EeePc 2g pc about 2 weeks ago and love it to death. But I do have a small problem. Sometimes when I'm at a Wifi hotspot such as a coffee shop or even outside where I'm getting an unlocked signal the laptop will hook up no problem even with 100% signal strength. It will work perfectly the browser(firefox) will open up and get pages or mail whatever. But sometimes it will hook up to the internet still with 100% Sig. strength open the browser and it says it's looking for the page such as google or hotmail and hangs with the little flower up in the right hand side going. Eventually it will report it can't find a site. Then I'll try another area and it working fine. I might come back and it's working or may not be.
I checked firewall(none),checked to make sure there are not 2 firefox's running and checked to make sure the site suchas linsync is whati tried to hook up to is what is chosen. Any ideas why this is doing this? Thanks |

I'm planning a trans-pac on a UA 747 with no power ports (at least, none back in my area of the plane). Are there any devices to hold D-cells that can extend the useful life of the eee PC?
If I'm not mistaken, you can't carry a lot of spare lithium batteries in your carry-on luggage but I don't think that applies to alkaline D-cells. |

could it be the network you're connecting to doesn't have an internet signal, so the issue is on their side.

Also, googling shows that someone DID run a laptop off of 20 D-cells: http://www.hackaday.com/2007/07/19/e...-battery-pack/ and http://www.kc0wys.com/projects/elect.../05/index.html ; I'm not enough of an engineer to do it, but I imagine someone with some electronics skills could do the same with a sufficient number of NiMH AA cells and actually make it reuseable. |
Is the Asus EEE 900 available now - to FTers?
Ads are popping up from HK eBay sellers but I didn't think they had shipped yet. May 2 is the US release date, according to the EEE PC forum, so it won't be long. :) |
I bought a replacement 4400mAh-capacity ASUS Eee PC battery, very good.
If someone need, can visit http://www.laptopbatterymart.com/lap...sus-eee-pc.htm to order. |
SRP $549 EEE 900 in US on May 12, 2008

10" EEE in June (Computex)
Source (in Traditional Chinese): ZDNet Taiwan (4/21/08)
Some highlights: (According to Jerry Shen, CEO of ASUS) 1. Fully aware of the competitors' move (Acer, Dell, HP), Asus plans to stay ahead of the game and roll out new EEE models every 3-4 months. 2. The earliest to see the 10" EEE will be in Computex this June (no announcement on the price and spec yet). 3. Expect lower price for 7" models (possibly the Linux-based 4G Surf) by the 3rd quarter. |
A quick question from a novice - if you only use it for browsing/email would a 2GB - 7 inch suffice - or would I be better off waiting for the 900?

the current size 4G would be much better in my opinion, 2GB model is downright packed full
The 2G system uses 1.5G for system software, and another 500MB for general usage. Adding Thunderbird and a whole lot of other software used 200MB; I don't work with 200MB attachments. PM me for details if you want them. |

As a happy owner of a 2G, I must disagree. I've already tweaked to install additional software on the system, and have plenty of space to go. If you're carrying movies on the built-in disk, you probably have more serious issues with storage. Browsing is very comfortable on the 7" model, but I've been using small laptops since forever. (Happy user of the 12" IBM X-series Thinkpads too!)

However I just got a mininote 2133 with 120GB because even 8 or 16GB not enough for my business travels. |

Personally I prefer the 7 inch to the 9 inch. That said, I'd shoot for the 4G, if only because it has a faster processor and teh RAM is upgradeable.
