I'd shoot for the 4G, if only because it has a faster processor and teh RAM is upgradeable.

Does that really make a big difference when browsing?

The processor speed probably doesn't make a big difference, but I noticed a significant speed boost when I upgraded the RAM in my 4G from 512MB to 2 GB (note that without a kernel patch or installing Windows, the system will only recognize 1GB).

However I just got a mininote 2133 with 120GB because even 8 or 16GB not enough for my business travels.

Steph3n,
I'd appreciate your comments in the HP 2133 Mininote thread (and here if there is some useful info for EEE buyers/owners).

Did you get the Linux or Vista version?

Thanks lin821 for the info on the new 10" EEE prototype and the strategy of new models. ^

(I am not happy with Vista Basic on this very basic 2Ghz Celeron Compaq I bought as a stopgap. 1Gb RAM isn't that great even just to run Opera.
Just waiting for a good choice of Atom-based ultra mobile EEEs or wannabEEEs)

Personally I prefer the 7 inch to the 9 inch.

Why? With more horizontal pixels, I've thought that the 9-inch would be better.

And as an aside, anyone looking for more information, hacks and opinions about the eee than a normal person can stand should check the eeeuser.com website.

According to the customer service rep I spoke with at HP, there will be versions of the Mini Note available with Window XP beginning May 15.

The 7-inch is slightly smaller and lighter, has longer battery run time, and has a much smaller power "brick". All of these are pluses in my opinion.

The 9" Eee is finally here

And it's showing as in-stock at NewEgg, for however long that lasts.

Steph3n May 12, 2008 2:45 pm

too bad newegg has a limit of 10 on the eee toy :)

Atom-Based EEE PC 901 in June

Asus was not happy the photos of Eee PC 901 were "leaked" much sooner than expected. Now the photos have gone from France to Global. Good news for those who can't wait for newer models though. :p

News Flash: 10" EEE PC 1000 on June 3rd, 2008

The Bigger, The Better? :)

There's mentioning of 10" EEE in April (with no set release date): Big Gets Bigger: Asustek to Release 10-Inch Eee PC Later This Year

According to the Taiwan media (5/26/08), Asus will release the 10" EEE on 6/3/08 (in Traditional Chinese), with a price tag no less than TWD $20K (about USD $660). Since Asus now considers the 8.9" as the "mainline" models, the sale price for the 7" models will drop and go lower than TWD $10K by the end of June. Acer is prepared to debut their lines of mini pc during Computex in June as well.

I guess it's going to be a fun summer with EEE, Mini Note 2133, WIND, XO, Classmate PC everywhere.

I'm halfway through modding my wife's EEE :)

Got an 8Gb flash drive and Bluetooth integrated, and the touchscreen is in the mail from Hong Kong. When it's done, it's going to be a nice little device.

Hey Scott, how's this for a deal?

EEEPC from mail-order place in Melbourne which specialises in closeouts:
EEE PC 701 512Mb/4G AUD$327 ($341 delivered)
Without delivery, this is around 38% less than what it would cost at a list - 10% price.

(When you've worked out the tinkering, will you put details in your blog? Thanks. ;))

Sounds like it's around $325 US, which isn't a bad deal at all.

Touchscreen? What exactly are you building it to be used as? :)
