Shuttle-Bored I wouldn't bother with the Warphone Carhouse, or O2 retail outlets. Strap on some contact gear and go to the Apple store on Regent Street. Take an improving book, a thermos of tea, some sandwiches, maybe your tax return...

New update (2.01) is now available. Seems to speed everything up a little bit.

I installed it earlier today. I'm hoping it will improve battery life. Time will tell.

:D

In the end, I've ordered it online from CPW - being delivered to the Canary Wharf store tomorrow - far more civilised I think. Now I just need to get set for lengthy hold periods whilst porting my number across from O2 Corporate to O2 Retail......

Were you able to confirm that the discount went in to effect on your iPhone plan? I just re-subscribed to the discount through my employer. It's an automated process via a link on our intranet. I got a confirmation email even though there was text on the web page that the iPhone didn't qualify for the corporate discount. I guess I'll wait to see my next bill whether it worked or not.

I just got my first iPhone bill from AT&T and my corporate discount was in fact applied ^

A search of this thread didn't turn up an answer, and, well, it's really too many pages to read the whole thing now so here goes...

I have a US bought iPhone, with AT&T contract. If I want a UK line with O2 as well, how to go about getting one or the other to 'unlock' it? The point is I am willing to have a full contract in two countries, each with the 'authorized' provider. As far as I know they require you to have 2 phones. That is just silly. Almost as silly as AT&T's roaming rates.

I have asked Apple, they say ask AT&T. I asked AT&T and got blank looks, misinformation and otherwise attitude indicating they never heard of such a thing.

I cannot believe I am the only FTer to have phone lines in more than one country. Any advice?

n.b. jailbreak only puts installer.app on the 3g, there is no software unlock yet, and frankly I shouldn't have to mess with that when I pay the authorized provider's contract price.

The more I read about these things, the less I like the sound of them. According to hackintosh, they do some seriously bad schnizzle to work.

From the looks of the article on apple.com http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1937 it appears you can buy a completely unlocked phone in several countries--such as Czech Republich, Greece, Singapore, etc. I wonder what the requirement is for a contract or if you can buy them prepaid.

Wait times online, online appointment scheduling... I hope Apple and AT&T are paying attention here.

LOL - yes, one of the upsides of the "singapore system" is that everything is usually very very well organized. SingTel is semi-govt and run just like Temasek. But you can't fault them - very orderly civilized system and you are forced to waste time and que up for hours, etc. etc.

I'm flying out later this week for Asia, already have plan with competitive StarHub but when I stop in Singapore, will definitely find out more about the iPhone plans, contracts, etc. One thing interesting is couldn't find any mention of whether phones are 'locked'?

I bought mine in the Czech Republic. 14.000 CZK (about $850) for 16mb version. No contract, no SIM lock.

pjoalfa Aug 31, 2008 11:26 am

I understand you can buy one for several hundred dollars elsewhere but why should I? I've fulfilled my contractual requirements and am quite happy to stay with AT&T. I am also quite willing to fulfill the requirents in country xyz. But why should I not be able to use only one iPhone for them?

pjoalfa Aug 31, 2008 11:55 am

Again, if I'm fulfilling the authorized contract(s) why should I have to resort to dubious contraptions that undoubtedly void my warranty?

(The ad itself is offering refunds to some as it doesn't seem to work everywhere.)
