Yes, seeing all these people lined up overnight is hilarious. :D Reminds me of all the fools who paid a huge premium on ebay or waited on Thanksgiving night for the PS3 last year. Turns out to be a big dud, and Sony is getting its butt kicked by the Wii.

I think the iPhone will be a success as a multifuction device a la Palm Treo or some of the new blackberries. But the phone is at the heart of it, and people are going to be disappointed with that compared with the nice clamshell phones that you can get for free. And watch out when those batteries start to die - who is going to want to give up their phone for a week for battery servicing (like you do with ipods)?

That being said, I would love to have one....if apple is ever able to cut a deal with verizon or sprint.

SIM: is removable. This was confirmed in the Pogue FAQ, and there's now a graphic of the how-to floating around.

When someone figures out how to unlock it & put it on TMO please let us know :)

If someone wants to lend me one I'll be happy to see what I can do about that.

It's amazing. Fifteen years ago I remember that we were on 9600 or 14.4K baud dial up, and now you can get 200K in your pocket. And that actually lags the rest of the world.

IIRC Korea has 30x the data transfer rate (average) that we do in the US.

Looks like the new version of iTunes has problems. I installed it and went back to 7.2 becuase of the problems. Hope that they get it figured out today or else some people won't be able to activate their iPhone!

What kind of problems?

Not related to iPhone - but

You are correct. My employer created a pre-DOCSIS 3.0 device that allows 100+ MB/s download speeds, and the first deployments were Korean. The average Korean Broadband connection is in the $20-30 monthly range, and provides connection speeds that would stagger the rest of us.

The iPhone - I'm going to do what I always do - wait for the 2nd generation to come out. Cheaper, and with fewer bugs.

Take a Look...

iTunes 7.3 Problems

Once you upgrade (on some machines) it won't save the iTunes file with any changes you make to playlists/adding songs/etc.

Hmm... ok. Thank goodness my upgrade didn't have that problem! :D

Looks like the same mechanism as the battery tray on the iMac remote.

As of 4PM in NYC Midtown

I looked at the lines near our work place - ATT Store on Boradway & 54th - 24 people in the line.... :o

Walked over to AppleStore on 5th Ave - about 300-400 people standing in the line - 300 gawkers looking at the zoo - :D

Kazillion print and media reporters and support people, 6 TV trucks and few dozen TV cameras. Free chairs to sit,T-shirts and sandwiches for people sweating out .... and regular folks going about their daily lives... welcome to a media hyped non-event.

Doesn't sound like a non-event with all that media.

The second gen version will probably be about the same price but with more memory and maybe 3G.

There will be lower-priced ones but it'll be like the 1GB Nano. Sure the cost of entry is cheap but you might end up buying the higher-priced model for more features.

CrazyOne Jun 29, 2007 3:58 pm

I was by that suburban ATT store around 5ish. There were more people in line than I thought there would be, prob between 20-30.

One minute to go....

CrazyOne Jun 29, 2007 4:02 pm

Hm, looks like online Apple store won't sell until 6pm PACIFIC. Well, it was either east coast gets screwed or west coast gets a 3-hour bonus. Guess it's the former.
