Tapping the space bar is the normal way to indicate that the word is complete. It seems logical to me.

Just rode over to the local T store (about 9PM local time). Plenty of 4 gig in stock but sold out of the 8 gig. I ordered an 8 gig which should be here in a week.

I played with the demo phone for 10 mins or so which convinced me that it's a pretty great device, with a few warts.

Posting from my 8g iPhone. It's going to take a while to get use to.

The at&t store by my house had a computer problem so couldn't sell any for a while. Drove over to an applestore (short hills nj) and waited only a few minutes, though the line looked very long.

Activation took only a few minutes. I had downloaded itunes earlier today.

The phone has pointed out deficiencies in my address book contacts. I guess I was keeping my frequent numbers on my old sim.

scott, i think whoever suggested apple didnt want 3g (so people cant use cingular video) and cingular didnt want itunes ringtones (so people "have" to buy from cingular) is probably correct. it seems to me that the problem is more the agreement between the companies, and the current state of mobile tech in the USA, rather than an apple hardware/software issue.

Posting from my iphone. Typing will take getting used to. Definitely easier to use the keyboard in safari on landscape mode. I hope they add this keyboard landscape feature for other apps. Love the device so far!

Posting on mine. :) AT&T sold out to the 40-50 in line. Tried to get me to order with no real ship date. :( Called the Apple store 5 miles down the road. They had plenty. :) In & out in 5 minutes. Maybe 5 minutes to activate. Seem to have a WiFi issue. Also, iPod music has been stopping while surfing. Overall though, pretty cool.

IMHO, I think that the lack of 3G was the ONE item that ATT got apple to agree to. Certainly, a V2.0 product will have HSDPA, but I have the feeling that based on timing, ATT got apple to agree to keep it with EDGE for V1.0, which allows them to maintain all the agreements they have in place with providors who are offering the very limited number of 3G HSDPA products for the ATT 3G network. In six months, that will be moot. I am going to wait on this one, after having used it all of 15 minutes now, and get a V2.0 product.

Between last night and this morning I have noticed several reports of varous ATT stores running out but Apple stores seem to have plenty. Take a look here: http://www.apple.com/retail/iphone/ Can't find one that doesn't have availability for today. Maybe they are replenishing stock or maybe they didn't sell out yesterday even with the crazy lines presumably mostly made up of people who actually bought a unit or two.

Wonder what the sales numbers are? I don't gather people would be lining up this morning. So people have to really enjoy that lineup experience or really need it 15-16 hours earlier than everyone else. Otherwise waiting in line yesterday was a big waste I think. ;)

In major cities there are many more ATT stores than Apple. In Manhattan there are two Apple stores and over dozen ATT/Cingular stores. Plus it is good to hangout in apple stores than ATT :D

On my way to my gig last night and my buddy who works at AT&T texts me to say that they only had a few left, but there was no line if I was still thinking about grabbing one. :o I had to literally drive right by his store on the way to the club so I pulled in and snagged the last 8GB unit they had.

Now its sitting on my table still in the box and I don't know what to do with it. I was gonna try to sell it on eBay until I got home saw that there are approximately 8,964,732 BAJILLION others already on there.

I dunno...I may return it. As badly as I've wanted one all this time I am scared that once I open it and start using it buyer's remorse it gonna hit me hard.

Happened by the Apple store last night at our nearby mall. Almost no wait (line gone by about 7:30). Plenty in stock. Many people purchasing. We observed that many seemed young and perhaps w/o means to pay. Asked the sales person about this - he said everyone was buying 2 and planned to sell one on Ebay to pay for the other. Methinks many will be disappointed. I only hope they list with a reserve high enough that they can return the iphones.

FWIW, I did play with one, IMHO, not worth the move from TMO.

We have a winner! ;)

I would have bought an unlocked one or a TMo one for a lot more than they are charging for them. But I doubt I would take one for free if I had to use ATT for monthly service. Oh well, some new Imates and HTC versions coming out soon that wont be crippled.

Yeah I think a few people got lucky early-on with eBay and snagged "more-money-than-brains" buyers before it became evident that there appears to be plenty to go around.

As of this morning the ones that have sold on eBay are selling for a slight profit (albeit a couple did sell for >$1,000), but certainly not enough to "pay for the first".

I think the 14 day return period is going to be a lot of people's friend.
