Just to confirm this still works. I have sent hundreds of messages to CDMA phones and have received the report back.

I think as of today Apple might be the only company to not have this function.

Looks like cut and paste is finally here!

Cut and paste has been available for quite a while for jailbroken phones and for readers of this thread. ;)

Maybe the SMS notification facility is related to SIM subsystems? Apple only seems to support only the most basic SIM functions and that appears to have been a conscious design decision. In this respect, the iPhone isn't really a fully functional GSM telephone. Apple puts most of these functions (like the phone book) into it's own OS with its own interfaces.

Cool. What is the software called?

stimpy Mar 20, 2009 1:03 am

If you search through this thread, I think it is called Clippy. I installed it on my iPhone, but I've only used it once. The SMS's and emails that I send from my iPhone are always pretty short, so I haven't really had the need for cut and paste.

Nice way of putting it.

I'll tell you what, though - I'm finding the iPod Touch getting more and more tempting...

Me too, and for two main reasons. The Touch 2G is "pwned" for life according to the dev team. That means it will always be jailbreakable no matter what Apple does.

The second reason is Bite SMS, which has been renamed to nibbleSMS and put on the app store. This application allows you to send SMS's from the Touch and have the return address be any telephone you want. So you can send very cheap SMS's worldwide from your Touch (provided you have WiFi access) and receive the reply for free to any GSM phone. ^

iPhone bluetooth headsets?

Want to get a new bluetooth earbud headset. Considering Sennheiser FLX70 FlexiFit Bluetooth Headset and Aliph Jawbone Bluetooth Headset since Apple seems not to be making their version (?). Have had a Plantronics with an inconvenient over the ear piece and want to eliminate that feature. Bought a Motorola (can't remember #) and could not get it to pair so gave it to the Mr. In order of preference: comfortable (nothing over the ear), good sound quality, nice design/battery life (in a tie). Am I missing any good ones?

Look at the plantronics voyager xxx (forgot model number)....it is stereo (connecting second earpc) so you can also listen to music with it.

aliph

There is a new aliph just released this week, so I would try to get that one and not the previous generation - bad wind noise issues. Great noise reduction, but bad wind noise issues - don't even think about opening the car window.

The new plantronics works well too, it is a little bigger but has better battery life and sound cancelling.

Thought I posted a reply earlier but don't see it. The new Aliph comes out May 2 and is Jawbone Prime: http://us.jawbone.com/

Anyone know what happened to the Apple bluetooths?

I think the consensus is that Apple will relase their new bt headset when 3.0 is released along with support for A2DP.

Is this the only new development due for iPhone this summer? No new model?

stimpy May 12, 2009 11:21 pm

Rumours still have a new model coming out this summer. June maybe. One particular rumour says:

- 600MHz CPU Speed (up from 400MHz)
- 256MB RAM (up from 128MB)
- Digital Compass and FM
- 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus
- 32GB size
- No major changes in battery, screen and external casing.
