I wrote about the DANGERS ;) of international roaming last week:

http://boardingarea.com/blogs/travel...ou-are-abroad/

Most people don't realize just how expensive this can be. You are looking at $20/MB on most networks!

BTW: It's also the same on the Nokia E66 and Nokia E71's that just came out. No Blackberry support, they also use Microsoft Exchange Support.

SO the same insane roaming rates apply. I'm stuck still using my e61i as it's 3G and works with a Blackberry roaming flat rate plan. Unless I see a flat rate roaming plan for iPhone push email I'm sticking with Blackberry, my 14 days or so a month out of the US can't afford to use anything other than Blackberry right now :(

a driver downloaded to where? prior to the 2.0 firmware, there was no official way to install anything on the iphone. how exactly did this driver get installed?

Presumably to a jailbroken V1 phone?

the original and 3g iphones support the standard bluetooth hands-free and headset profiles, and any compatible bluetooth device should 'just work.'

Agreed. That's just what the store guy said when explaining why I might need to return the headset

I have a E61i as well. But I don't have Blackberry account.

3G data on prepaid plans are not so great.

Maybe Wifi roaming is the way to go.

That sucking sound. . .

Is the noise of the battery being drained. Eight hours of light use (with bluetooth) and it was all she wrote. I would estimate that it was about an hour of talk time.

It doesn't bother me. I have a charger in the car, my briefcase, and at my home machine. I just keep it plugged in whenever possible.

Just called my local store.

Asked if they had already sold today's allotment of phones.

Agent said they didn't have any all weekend.

I asked if there were some in the back for tomorrow's allotment.

He said that they had none, and none were delivered yesterday.

And he just told me none were delivered today.

I noticed that! I haven't even had mine on for longer than 5 minutes at a time, made a couple of 1 minute calls, haven't even set up voice mail or e-mail yet, and the battery is gone after less than 48 hours. What the hell?

I take it you've never owned a 3G smartphone before.

Just naïve to the realities of battery life. ;)

sandyweb33 Jul 14, 2008 8:39 pm

I am an original iPhone owner so I like them--that said I was on the phone for a couple hrs today due to when syncing my 3G when it gets to "backing up sandyweb33's iPhone" it takes 20+ mins. Apple is sending me another phone--they say tomorrow. Anyone else have this issue?

Apparently so.

Tonight I noticed that the upper-right-hand battery indicator took a couple more hours of charge (after the primary indicator was "full") before the "lightning bolt" turned into a "plug". Perhaps I didn't fully charge it yesterday.

We'll see what tomorrow brings.

It looks like the charging cable from my iPod Nano also works with the iPhone. ^

I heard it was the same down at Spectrum and Fashion Island Apple stores too. I don't know why people didn't just go to a local AT&T store like I did. No waits, in and out in 10 minutes, same phone and service.

I tried 3 different AT&T stores in Long Beach all weekend and they were all out of stock immediately.
