im facing a problem.
The power adaptor that came with the phone has stopped functioning. When i called, the guy was very more intent in verifying that i actually had a valid contract with At&T before entertaining me. Is there any warranty clause that actually prevents me from getting a replacement for the power adaptor since apple sold me an item which does not work. Just bring the phone and charger to an Apple store (if you have one close to you) or get in touch with Apple support. |
go to a store, or call apple. you are under warranty, all items. 1YR. and there is NO iphone older than 1 yr. you wouldn't even need a receipt

Power brick has the same warranty as the phone itself.
If you called ATT because you bought at ATT store or via ATT online, that's just calling the wrong place. Hardware support for this deal is handled through Apple. Not that you might not get what you need through ATT eventually, but since when was ATT known for good support? ;) Do you know if it's the brick or the cable that has failed? They are separate pieces and will be replaced independently. If the brick has failed, the phone would still charge if you attach to your computer or anything else that provides a USB port. You could go buy any cheapo brick that provides a USB port to have a spare while you wait for a replacement, and you can buy any car socket adapter that provides a USB port to charge in the car. If the cable has failed, it wouldn't charge at all from any source, and you'll need a new "dock connector to USB" cable instead of a new brick. Even these have third-party solutions if you want a quick spare. I've done an extra charging cable (and brick if not attached) one way or another for the last few phones and computers I've owned/carried. Always comes in handy and may justify a quick purchase at a convenient store while you find time to drop into the Apple Store or attempt another call. Do you actually have an ATT contract? Just curious if that's a foul-up or they are actually prying into how many people have bought an iPhone and not activated them on ATT. |

I fail to understand how a power adapter can be modfied if use is only with a iphone made by apple. Is it true that if i am not a AT&T customer that my request to get my power adaptor replaced will be denied? |
Potentially useful links:
http://forums.ilounge.com/archive/in.../t-221604.html (discussion with someone who had a ~6 month old iPhone with no ATT contract needing warranty service; sounds like solved eventually) http://images.apple.com/legal/warranty/docs/iphone.pdf (link to PDF file of Apple iPhone warranty; according to that thread there's nothing in the warranty that says you need a contract) http://discussions.apple.com/thread....09635&tstart=0 (This thread says warranty void if unlocked, but if yours is not unlocked and simply has no ATT service, you may be okay. Or not, judging by the last post in that thread.) You haven't said if it's a hacked iPhone. That would most definitely void the warranty though. Doesn't matter if the broken part is the power adapter. As I mentioned, adapters need not come from Apple, and third-party options are cheap and plentiful. If your phone has been modified, this is the way to go and don't waste any more time trying to get Apple to fix. If the phone simply has no ATT contract but has not been hacked, you're in a wishy-washy area that you'll have to decide if the time spent and principle of getting a replacement adapter is worth it in the face of the 10-20 bucks you might spend on whichever part you need. |
Find a friend with an iphone, and have them do it. Or, send it to me and i'll do it for you!

Lot of news and rumors have surfaced since this thread was last updated.
Within two months, on the 1 year anniversary of the launch last year, we'll have the App. Store, official support for Exchange and Notes. Rogers announced yesterday they will be carrying the iPhone this year. In the last couple of weeks, a lot of rumors about the 3G iPhone, including a possible $200 subsidy from AT&T. Do people still have theirs? Or have some holdouts gotten it yet or looking forward to the new design? |
Still Have it. Still Love it.
I still have mine and love it aside from the occasional Safari freeze that requires a reset.
I'm ashamed to admit that I will consider buying the 3G model when it is released depending on what features it ends up having. I love the "Where Am I?" feature on Google Maps, and if the new model winds up including a GPS chip it could be an amazing tool. Not sure what I'll do with my current one although it may go to the wife, but as much as she texts I'm not sure she'll like it (my wife might possibly be the world champion of "texting by feel" on her Razr). The idea of the subsidy from AT&T would be cool, but the other rumor about them cranking up the unlimited data plan to $45 a month is not. :( Let's hope that rumor never leaves the mill. Craig |
I still have mine but passed it on to #1 1K GF (now 1P GF :-) ) and she LOVES it. I cannot wait for resident app support (although it will be crippled) possibly GPS and a slingplayer software. As much as 3G is love, I don't think the iphone will see too much of a pop in performance and speed. The 3G really isn't the bottleneck for most web surfing and the fast iphone processor makes it seem much faster than most 2.5G devices. If there isn't any tethering (which I say 95% certainly will not be) then it won't really offer much for me. I hope they introduce some TRUE resident applications like GPS and slingplayer ON the device and not in the APPLICATION shell.

I hadn't heard of the $45 rumor but that's probably typical of what's charged for high-speed mobile data plans, if I'm not mistaken.
Verizon charges more and don't know what Sprint charges. Hmm, you would need the subsidy in order to afford the data plan. |
I don't think they would go that high, since that is about standard for HSDPA plans, and I think they would like to be less than standard. I think the 30-35$ is more reasonable. Or, 45$ and all you can eat texts

Free AT&T WiFi for iPhone and Laptop Connect Users
This just in from an internal source at AT&T.
Today AT&T is providing iPhone and Laptop Connect users with access to AT&T WiFi at US Starbucks locations and over 10,000 other WiFi hot spots, nationwide. No Press Release from AT&T yet, but I did find this article confirming: http://www.macrumors.com/2008/04/30/...s-for-iphones/ |
I plan to get a family plan and grab for 5 iphones for 200 each when the 3g versions come out. Will use an apple gift card and 10% coupon to save some grrr.
|
Can't wait to get the 3G when I go to school in the States in the Fall...
Now I just need a great long-distance plan to call Canada ;-) |
