There is that. :D

I have a low pain threshhold, so studiously avoided predictive texting. ;)

Speaking of pain: I was trying to recover my custom ringtones from my Moto Razr. For some reason the freaking device refused to copy about half of them. Didn't even supply the menu option. They were all .mp3 format.

I remembered that I had the same set on an SE P900, copied them off to a memory stick and thence to my PC.

It appears that Apple only wants you to use ringtones crafted from music you have already purchased from the iTunes store.

So, to save others the searching, I found iRinger (PC).

iRinger not only converts your existing ringtones into m4r, but it drops them into the iTunes Ringtone folder ready to sync. ^

OK. Welcome to the new millennium AND the world of Apple. It's a world where you will listen to what THEY want, use accessories THEY want, use applications THEY want and listen to ringtones THEY want.

:D

That's probably something they did to keep the RIAA happy, since they have a relationship with the record companies.

In fact, the first time out, all you had to do was rename the file and it would work.

They're not trying real hard to prevent people from making their own ringtones.

Just putting up nominal hurdles.

I'm open to any advice or tricks from MAC wizards for the IPhone 3G. :p
I need all the help I can get.

I went to a workshop on the IPhone at the Apple store in Costa Mesa, CA this afternoon at 2p. Guards at both doors. Line for IPhone looked long. Store very busy. I had to say I was there for the workshop to get in. Others who were there to buy computers were told to come back another day. They looked upset.

BTW... workshop not very helpful.

I had trouble with my voicemail but, after another visit to the ATT store, and 40 minutes on the landline phone with Apple techs, it seems to be working.

so what if i made my own ringtones from various sound files i have accumulated over the years (i.e. the three stooges theme*). i simply converted them to mp4 and bluetoothed them to nokia6131. from what you folks are saying, i'm sol in using them on an iphone

*the original curly/three blind mice theme ;)

I thought the same, but if you look at the back fold of the cardboard wrap that encloses the paperwork in the box, there's a little itty bitty piece of thin metal that looks like a paperclip, attached to the cardboard by two little flaps.

I lucked out yesterday. Went to the nearby Apple store to see what the line looked like. No line at around 1:50 so I asked the guy at the door if that meant they were out of stock. Initially, he said yes but asked if I wanted to stay for a demo of the features.

I was going to do that when another guy came up and said they had one iphone left, 8 gb black, which is exactly what I wanted. Walked out with an activated phone at 2:15.

Now I just have to figure out exactly how to do stuff with it! :D

If you can get them on a PC, use iRinger, as noted above. If you have a Mac, iToner appears to do the trick.

Aghh! You are right! Apple packaging is too clever by half.

Got the next to the last one in Green Bay. Also 8 GB Black. Was # 41 in line and a few ahead of me did not want 8 GB so they placed order for 16 GB. Green Bay was allocated 35 in total. Was in line for 45 min before store opened and 1 hr & 45 min after store opened. Not too bad and AT&T gave us numbers so we could step out of line to go get coffee, etc. Of course everyone in line was very excited and time went fast. Only allowed one per person in line.

Which is really not all that different from Verizon with any phone, is it? In fact, I think Verizon is worse the way they artificially cripple their phones.

I got the next to the last 16 GB in black at the Apple Store in Palm Beach Gardens yesterday. Heard from others that the AT&T store was completely out of IPhones. Arrived around 10 am and there were only 12 people in line...outside the store. Took about 45 minutes to get to the line inside the store...all told about an hour and a half from arrival to departure.

After an afternoon of loading apps and getting to know the Iphone, all I can say is.. I am in love!

A word of warning, though -- I detoured by the Louis Vuitton store to buy a red EPI Iphone case. The phone would not slide all the way in, so I removed it and decided to take a pass -- but the sales associate insisted it would fit and shoved my Iphone in the case. Unfortunately she was then unable to remove it. After 20 minutes of trying, neither could 4 other sales associates. They were just about to cut the case open to free my IPhone when the store manager was finally able to get some traction and remove it from the case.

Apparently LV will need to redesign their IPhone cases to accommodate the curve to the back of the 3G.
