Im actually looking for something that I can use to write things, blog entries (or as those on Omni might call them if they came from me - "the ravings of that lunatic"
) specificially that I could send via POP mail (preferably Google). I know the Treo 700w will do that (but not from Europe, etc). What about the E61 and Treo 600 or 650?

Heard some positive comments about the 700p, albeit on the Palm platform. And that's on Verizon, so no Europe on that, either.
FWIW, there is a new 8700 BlackBerry coming down the pike. Word is Verizon gets it first, in late September...to be called the 8703e (for EV-DO). Sprint and Bell (Canada) to get them after. Other than being on CDMA, I don't know what the other differences will be.
Also heard there will be a "BlackBerry Stealth" coming out on GSM (no UTMA) for Cingular and T-Mobile. Stealth is supposed to have a camera, media and removable components. Unsure about the release date, but December or thereabouts, is the guess.
Palm is supposed to have a couple of other units coming out. One is called "Hollywood" and the other "Lennon." Don't know the specifics, other than there will be no external antenna on it, and they will both use WM.
Hope this helps.

I've listed the stack of add-on apps that I have on my 650, but I have to say that I have NEVER had it freeze up on me during a call. I'm on Cingular and have used it pretty much from California to Vermont without an issue while I was speaking with someone.
Yes, I've had it reset on me, but that comes from when I try to make the Treo multitask, primarily when I'm using the web, have AIM/YM/MSM all running, then decide to make a call. Honestly, I sort of take the blame for those moments on myself!
The blackberry does seem to be more stable to me. However, until it matches what the 650 can do in a single device, I'll stick with the Treo.

I have both right this moment (finishing a month on my Treo while my office has moved to Blackberry). Definitely pros and cons to both:
- I don't have giant man hands, but the Blackberry keyboard is definitely easier to manage
- The Treo is smaller but quite a bit heavier
- I'm going to miss the camera and video on the Treo
- The Blackberry seems quite a bit faster for web browsing and email than my Treo was
- I'm going to miss the sweet sounding alarm on my Treo
Just a few thoughts...

Nokia E61 is the best cell phone on the road so far. I am typing this using my E61 while walking from subway to the class. Just like PC. I was close to buy a Treo 650. But this little cell just pop up. Now, I can use this to surf the net, anywhere including Japan's hotspring with 3G. The secret: JavaScript. WM5 does not have it. I can even purchase tickets on united.com and recognized my MP no. I am now in heaven, with real Internet access, not the WAP.

I've been a long time Palm user, but the 700p's issues have rapidly driven me to considering other options.
We use Exchange in our office, and thus, with a WM5 device, I can get push email, etc., all for no extra cost. So that's also a very nice thing.
On the GSM front, the next-gen GSM Treo will be WM5, and slightly small and antenna-less.
On the CDMA front, Verizon already has the 700w, and Sprint should be releasing their 700w shortly.

Thanks. Im actually overjoyed with the Treo 700w. Very few problems, push mail works great. Palm OS and Blackberry both need additional software for wireless sync but the 700w works great. I may be tempted to get a GSM one as well when they come out. I think the Lennon is alledged to be the GSM version.

I just this month switched from blackberry to a 700p. I wanted the palm os, and I believe the p has a higher resolution than the w as well.
I have to say, for my purposes, the treo kills my BB 7100. With the palm os there are tons of free programs to make it do whatever you want. I have several video game emulators and several hundred NES, genesis, and SNES games on it (card actually), a couple movies, a few episodes of mr show, the series 3 south, and a bunch of other videos. The evdo is fantastic and streaming media is great. Everything I can think of to make it do someone has written a program that does it. I'm keeping my blackberry for travel overseas since its unlocked, but while the 8700 was tempting, I think I'm keeping the treo for a bit. The screen is not as nice as my sharp 903sh, and the camera is of course not even close to being in the same class as the sharps, but it's adequate.
I can't comment on business uses since I don't have any business to do. Other than having gmail push farealert to my phone. That way at least I know immediately what i missed out on.
I do miss the scroll wheel, but not the freezups when recieving a call while browsing. Touchscreen is convenient and cool. I like the palm desktop software better. I dislike the giant usb connection of the treo. I do like the BB regular usb plug. The blackberry led flashes when in service, which i like so I can find it in the dark, the treo flases when not in service (i think this is different for the 650). With a seidio clear case on the treo is as pocketable as my bb with a vaja case. Moreso actually, since there's less friction. BB was easy to handle without looking at the screen. I knew how to change profiles and etc blind. But the treo has the sound/no sound switch on top, so, draw.
Maybe not helpful observations, but it's all I've got.

For what it's worth....
It looks like Verizon is going to release their 8703e within the next week. One site is saying it could even be released today, but I have my doubts. Several people have said Monday, August 28th, which is the date I'm banking on.
Word is that this thing is CDMA/EVDO in the US and has the capability to roam in Europe on GSM. Looks alot like the 8700c and is on the 4.1 code/platform. I've seen pictures -- all black, no joystick, has a thumbwheel, no camera. Again, looks alot like the 8700, but with an all-black casing.
Can't wait to get this. Not so much getting this, but to ditch Cingular. I was leery on getting a Treo, I'm glad I waited.

Fan of Both
I am actually a fan of Blackberry and Palm. I still have a palm for games, book reading and other applications. I choose to keep it becuase I have been harassed about using a BB on an airplane. The flight crew seems to be ignorant of the ability to turn off the phone features and still use the device.
I love my Blackberry 8700. It works great and the web browsing is fast. If you are going to travel international, you need to stick with a T-Mobile or Cingular GSM Model. I know Verizon is coming out with a multiband phone, but trust me NEVER do Verizon internationally it is a disaster. My entire company is switching back to TMobile as it was a HUGE disaster with their international phones and service. The people we called could not handle our user issues and the devices just did not work. They had to turn their phones off and on about every 1/2 hour.
If you are primarily a Email user, you just can't beat the Blackberry.

I think to some extent this debate is like the debate about which is better, Piper or Cessna (with the answer being the one you learned to fly in is better
)
I have had Palm devices since the second model made. I understand the OS. I have a conduit that synchs to my favorite PIM which I've been using for years.
I had a smartphone for a few months and hated it. But I think that's because, in part, I just didn't know the OS like I know Palm's.
I also had a Blackberry recent for a year. I liked it very much for email, but the rest of it was Greek to me, and I kept trying to get it to do things in the way that I would do things withe Palm OS.
My current Treo 650 with Cingular (actually, still managing to have an ATT Wireless plan, despite Cingular's hostage-taking of ATT customers. But that's another topic.....) is fantastic (and has ended my reputation as a cellphone Luddite).
It's my fourth or fifth Palm device and I love it.

As a primarily email and SMS user, the Blackberry has been a revelation for me. I find the OS very easy to use, and the phone function adequate for the short calls I make.
So much so that the BB is going to be my only phone, replacing the Razr.
