My Canadian-Issued Diner's Club Master Card (corp card) is CHIP+PIN, not CHIP+SIG... no clue why my US-based company uses a Canadian bank, though...

I guess it makes sense if you are in places where cellular coverage doesn't exist.

Yes indeed and the unit also doubles as a communication device for my emergency preparedness kit.

I have also taken it on my family hikes where cellphone coverage can be spotty.

I may be too much of a worry wart but I don't want to be in a situation where I get lost and have to spend the night in a mountain somewhere because I can't get help.
