Still amazed when I see people taking pictures with cell phones at these places which most people visit once in their lifetime.
Maybe I'm missing something, lugging my DSLR and gear to the same venues.

Not to say you wont get better photo quality out of your DSLR but its the photographer not the camera. Just because you have more pixels and a better sensor doesnt mean you can take better photos. Just playing devils advocate here. Also depending on the camera/phone you could be in for a surprise on how the two fare. Also camera equipment quickly gets bulky and heavy and becomes another bag, i mean if youre doing photography you want to do it right, which isnt always an option.

I carry a travel router. I usually do on international and don't on domestic, but do carry a mifi which moots it out.
Speaking of MiFis, I just saw two companies that have interesting MiFi plans that are a hybrid between PAYG and contract. Tru and Ting bill you for what you use with a small base fee.

I just ordered the Novatel 4510 MiFi box from Millenicom
(on Verizon 20GB/mo with no contract)
Will I be able to purchase a French SIM card and use it in this box
while in Paris?
If so which outfits will ship to to US before I depart?
Thanks!

Right now I am enthralled with my Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 (with keyboard cover and Bluetooth mouse) as a 2-screen work and entertainment setup. I am pretty close now to where I don't need to bring a laptop when I travel.

Considering how much of my luggage I dedicate to electronics, it may be easier to list the ones which are not must-have.
I'm going to Argentina next month and from the sound of it, connectivity may not be reliable, either in mobile or at the hotel.
That's one reason why I haven't been interested in cruises, because you're cut off.

I know this is probably bad form, but I think most of the answers on this thread have been missing the point - everyone knows that we love our phones, tablets and cameras. I think the point, or at least, when I clicked the link to open this thread what I THOUGHT it was going to be about was that little thing that costs maybe $20 that nobody realizes would make their trip much easier.
In that vein, before my last trip I bought this device and I couldn't be happier with it: FosPowerŪ FUSE World-Wide Universal AC Adapter Travel Charger with Dual [3.1A] USB Charging Ports (US UK EU AU) - Black
That's the amazon title if you're searching for it. The key is the USB ports. It is a worldwide power adapter with 2 USB ports. Beautiful device. And to be able to travel with IT, a couple square inch box that can connect to just about any power outlet around the world and can connect your iPhone, tablet, Kindle, not to mention my 10,000 mAh battery pack (that would get honorable mention on my must have gadgets list). Add in a couple 3-6 inch cables (micro USB and lightning) and you're all set. No more tiny or large wall warts. No more power strip. Saved me a ton of clutter and aggravation on my last trip.
