What a beautiful girl Indy is and what a great life she had with you! My sincerest condolences on your loss. We do always go in knowing that a relationship with a dog will never last long enough but the years you had her are well worth the grief. At least, that's what I have told myself.
I lost my Yorkie, Willy, last year and I'm from Las Vegas. If (and it's much too soon to even think about this) you ever decide you're ready to adopt a new best friend, feel free to PM me or ask on the boards because there are great groups here to adopt from. I found my Charlie from a fantastic agency here.

Thanks, Jennifer - I'm not sure when I'll be ready, but I'll be in touch if when it gets to that point. I dropped some of Indy's stuff at the SPCA earlier in the week (food, treats, etc) - I was thinking about fostering a dog in the spring maybe.

I am also very sorry for your loss. It does get easier, but it takes a lot of time. Try try try to remember the good times now.
I'm also sure the Jacques the basset is being a true gentleman.

In memory of Indy:
===========================================
Live simply.
Love generously.
Care deeply.
Speak kindly.
Remember, if a dog was the teacher you would learn things like:
When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.
ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY BECAUSE THAT IS HOW MAN'S BEST FRIEND WOULD WANT YOU TO DO IT!

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Indy - my condolences. It sounds like you had a great life together that ended very suddenly.
My cat died in my arms 1 week ago and I am surfing FT right now partially as a distraction from thinking about her. It is amazing how the personalities and characters of our pets become such a big part of our lives. Dibby the cat was a great traveler and had been with me for 16 years. We met at the Vancouver Animal Shelter, where she literally stood up in the cage and batted at me to get me to notice her (I second supporting your local shelter/SPCA). I am thankful for all the time we had together, but miss her terribly.
It helped to see your post and know that I`m not the only one going through something like this right now. I hope that it helps you to know that too. Sending sympathetic thoughts your way.

All DOGS go to heaven.
Sorry to hear about your lost.
when I was 1 year old, my parents got me a small puppy and we grew up together. She passed away when we were 17 years old. I felt like I lost a sister
