The staff believe the new lounge will be open in June. They stated it is kitted out and now on final completion. They said it would be Royal Silk which differs from the evidence in the photo. The existing D lounge will then be renovated in three phases so it will remain partly open. The F lounge is unaffected

It’s ok. Chiang Mai Airport lounge was only 10 months behind schedule.

Amazing Thailand but anyway I would be astonished if it matched the offering of SQ lounge

Cannot imagine that either, as none of the other TG lounges comes even close.

For me it‘s either SQ, or BR for late departures.

if they let golds into the lounge they would be jammed. Air Canada has a "polaris" style lounge in YYZ that's a flop. It also limits access, but the lounge is so crowded its a failure. So unless these lounges are built large enough or they limit who gets in they wont work.
it would be nice is STAR could come up with a new HIGHER level, Like ONE WORLD.

Took a look today. Ongoing progress, but chairs and lamp fittings seem to be in place.

I just enquired and was told it would open "after tomorrow" (Today being Sun 20/10).
Edit: now told it's opening tomorrow, 21/10.

Saw the same seats today but was told opening date would be Tuesday anyway, it's about to happen!

Besides the name, what is the difference between a Royal Silk Lounge and a Royal Orchid Lounge? As ROP Gold I can visit them both and I'm sure the same applies for J passengers. Any differences in the offerings?

Royal Silk = Business Class Lounge only
Royal Orchid = First and Business Class Lounge

As I peeked into the lounge today, it looks ready to open anytime now. Looking at the ceremony arrangement, I assume that it's likely to open tomorrow as you were told.

Pictures available on official THAI AIRWAYS facebook page.

- One only for First/ ROP Plat
- Another side for BC / *A Gold / ROP Gold

There is made to order food and proper Barista
