What is OMNI and why is my account not able to access it?

OMNI is basically the "off-topic" portion of FT. If you are looking for suggestions on any number of things, or looking to discuss non-travel topics, OMNI is probably the place for it. If you are looking to discuss politics or religion, OMNI P/R is the place to do that.
Access to OMNI is attained when you have been a member of FT for at least 180 days, and when you have hit at least 180 posts. The mods are usually pretty good at spotting post-padding tries, and take steps to prevent post-padding.

I'm against this, but not in the kind of way that my life will be materially affected one way or another no matter what the outcome. But still, a no for me.

I think they should count...and I have probably posted only once in Omni since I've joined FT.
FT is a community....members should be applauded for being part of it no matter which forum they choose to frequent. Yes it's a travel website, however to partake in Omni you still needed to visit other forums too in the first instance to gain access.
And why does everyone get so uppity about how many posts someone has?
A lot of us here have no knowledge of how things used to be...why keep harping on it? Move forward...some great people on Talkboard from what I've been reading and many of them want change.

Onmi is the Official off topic portion of flyertalk. There are other forums that are off topic, or contain a significant amount of off topic non travel related posts where posts do count. It makes no sense that if somebody starts a thread say about American Vodka in Omni it wouldn't count, but put it in Dining Buzz and it counts.

You could change the number of posts per page in your profile, so instead of eight pages it would be three or four pages long. My point is number of pages means about as much as post count, which isn't much at all.

I guess to be logical, what is the major focus on FlyerTalk? Count those things that are pertinent (more or less). If there is something that is not pertinent and will affect post count by a large amount then what's the point?
At least it would be great if they could be tallied separately. If someone is telling you something that you think is wrong about flying and they have 10,000 OMNI posts and 180 FlyerTalk pertinent posts that would be useful information.
If it's not useful just give everybody 10,000 posts when they first visit OMNI and give them the status they want while saving time and resources.

Good lord people. I can't believe how much energy and time continues to be expended on the wrong solution to the wrong problem.
This isn't about OMNI, lounge threads, or anything related. This has always been about those little numbers under your handle that say "Posts: xxxxx".
FlyerTalk attracts people who are trying to gain more - more flying benefits, higher elite status, better advice, more money in the pocket, etc.
The "Posts: xxxxx" feeds this like crack cocaine. For a group that's already addicted to more, more, more, it's the presence of this statistic in every handle's description that's the problem...not these petty side distractions that pop up every year about whether OMNI should count, or whether CC should count, or whether lounge threads should count.
The obvious answer: Eliminate the broadcasting of individual post counts in handles. For those addicts and (mostly) men suffering from SPS, you could still see your own post count in your own profile. Heck, you could even advertise it in your signature. But there is absolutely no need to be broadcasting what has become a "mine's bigger than yours" sideshow.
And yes, this probably means eliminating titles too, although you might be able to retain titles based on a percentage rather than a raw number of posts. Get into the top 50% of all posters on FT? Get a Pewter status. Top 10%? Gold. Top 1%? Platinum. Top 0.1%? Molybdenum. This would mitigate post-padding issues far more efficiently than endless debate on which forums and threads should count.
Harumph.

5 character post threads?
im not sure having it only in profile/signature would make that much of a difference?
personally, i want postcount to ID people with low postcount. used in conjunction with join date.
other than that i dont care, but the only thing i can come up with is some kind of tier. like "10K+" after 10K it probably doesnt matter much? if using 10K+ not sure about any other lower tiers.

What is the point of having post counts? Why are they necessary? That this TB often wants to vote on it shows that there must be a growing level of insecurity on this forum to want to include posts having nothing to do with travel as part of some tally.
I wonder if IBB actually paid TB members for their time, would IBB instruct the TB to spend so much energy on something so pathetic?

Let's just make Omni posts count and be done with it!
Posts is posts. I have never seen another board where only some posts actually count.

OMNI posts should count. Period.
And anyone voting otherwise, I'll not be able to further support in any additional Talkboard elections. Period.
