This in no way is directed specifically at you... but you've hit the problem right on the head... Omni-ites. It's a hold over from Randy's belief there shouldn't be an off-topic area, and it was he who created this second class citizen status.
While I will agree some people live there, perhaps it's because they no longer travel, or don't have anything or much to add to a M&P forum. I can say that it is what happened to me. Technology made it easier to do my job from where I am versus going to a location. Does that mean I no longer should be able to shoot the breeze with some long time friends? Do I not have anything valuable to add to a M&P forum? I still contribute where ever and when ever I can, sometimes in Omni, sometimes in a M&P forum. But I keep coming back for the community aspect of this forum.
This is about consistency of treatment of off-topic posts. Some, because they are in a M&P forum, or one that counts, such as community (the contest threads) are valued by this community, while some have no value to the community.
So far I haven't seen anyone who opposes treating all posts equally address the consistency issue at all, except to say don't count any post (which I would favor).

And for the record: I oppose the counting of non-travel related posts (including lounge posts).
Regardless of the outcome of this vote, I would support removing post counts from the sidebar, just so we can stop having this ridiculous and meaningless argument every 6 months.

Ok - so I've attempted to tally up the opinions as best I could based on who has posted in this thread - correct me if I'm wrong (but note that I should be packing as I'm heading to DC to fly to IST tomorrow & will have VERY limited access through the 17th).
Majority that have expressed what I believe to be a clear opinion at this time are against this motion. Feel free to clarify and correct me...apologies in advance if I've spelled your handle wrong.

Why did you not count the Talkboard members posting in this thread? A quick look by me shows ~ 5 TB members are probably for and 1 against. Since they are members, first and foremost, they should have been counted. That would bring your for and against numbers much closer - perhaps 18 for and 20 against.
An accidental omission?

I strongly suspect that bhatnasx was attempting to summarise the view of ordinary, non-voting members. Including the TB members would skew this.

And FWIW, matthandy, in regards to your comment on my voting against this motion before the discussion had fully taken place - a very similar discussion had taken place the last time the TalkBoard voted on this and I voted the same way I had voted on the prior vote on this matter.

it doesn't. If they were removed I wouldn't care. However, as it stands now it's only certain off topic posts that are acceptable, not all of them. It all about consistency.

I can't wait to see the increase in "FT Posting Legends" due to number counting threads. Imagine the whole front page of OMNI full of those types of threads again. I can't begin to express my excitement for all the "contributions" being recognized from these types of posts.
Will you be spinning off a non-post counting OMNI Games forum as has been suggested before?

Tom, I agree with you, and if the motion passes, I was going to directly speak with the mods of Omni and the CD to ask that counting games be considered post padding and they no longer be permitted. I would go go far as to dig up the old ones and ask they be deleted to try to bring some of those padders back to a normal post count.
The TB can't decide what is appropriate for a forum after its been created, which is why I think there is no mention of the games.

That's exactly the kind of stuff that Talk Board needs to discuss with the membership before they rush to put a motion out for a vote. I still don't see why the rush to vote versus spending some time discussing the issues with the membership and then crafting a motion that works for everyone. The motion could very easily have addressed OMNI Games.

I would support a motion that allowed posts in OMNI to count as long as post padding was banned (in all forums I might add). nerd asked a very good question that hasn't been answered:
"Again, why are "OMNI games" even an issue, given that post-padding is against the FlyerTalk TOS?"

Were ordinary members allowed to post on those threads? I thought that they were for TB candidates only. If that is the case, then it can't really be called a discussion, since it was one sided. If members were allowed to post then I stand corrected.
