This seems about $20-30 higher than I would expect. I don't know of any particular garage very nearby, but I'm sure you can find one without looking too hard. Will still set you back a bit though.

Without duplicating the referenced thread, I'll just give some comments:
1.) Good bars, if you're into that sort of scene
2.) Decent amenities
3.) Tiny standard rooms. Among the smallest in NYC
4.) Good location in Midtown East
If you have the option, your award stay will probably go further at the W Union Square or W Times Square.
As for parking at the Lexington Ave W, don't use the hotel parking. They just use a local garage that you can self park in for a fraction of what they charge you. I think they use the one around the corner on 50th between Lexington and 3rd Avenue.
Parking is generally free on the streets in that area from 7pm Saturday night all the way until Monday morning. Just check the signage to make sure.

Ho-hum property, not great with the recognition of Platinum status.
Unless you give us more, there's not too much we can tell you.

Would anybody happen to know how to tell the difference between a wonderful room and a cozy room. I booked a wonderful room and have a sneaky suspicion that I got a platinum downgrade.

The Cozy room has approximately 170-180 sq ft.
The Wonderful room has approximately 200 sq ft.
As you can see, not much difference.

W new york (lex) or other w nyc?
Hello,
First post
I stayed for first time at W NEW YORK (LEX) last summer (2010). I frequent NYC often, I'm not too picky about rooms (I mostly sleep in them Last summer, I booked a cozy ($200 a night), and was upgraded to a corner (I think it was 11th floor). I was there for a week (7 nights) mostly enjoying concerts and events (pleasure) with a friend. I spoke to Manager, Asst. Manager, and Managers assistant a few times before my trip as I wanted to be clear that my only request was for a fairly quiet room (as noise I read was not good on Lexington at night with fire trucks and police cars - there is a fire station close by). I was told the best is to request high room, back of house. So thats what the Managers assistant placed for me.
I am not a complainer about things, so what I have read in the 9 pages of posts here there are things I agree with and others I didnt experience. But for my purposes, I could sleep The management was helpful and attentive.
My question is this....I am spending two weeks (mostly pleasure) in the city this summer (2011) and want to know which SPG or preferably, W Hotel, should I stay in? I have had a rough start to the year with family issues and I REALLY WANT TO RELAX AND HAVE A NICE CHANCE FOR UPGRADE. I am a SPG gold member, but very loyal. I have gold, SET Corp, and also can pay retail if I chose. However, I dont see the point in paying to stay in a really high end chain (St. Regis, etc.) in NYC as I can use my SET# with other chains for that type of stay at a much cheaper rate. I REALLY WANT A NICE BAR SCENE (So I assume most replies will be WTS or WNY).
Any suggestions on how/where best to book for highest possible ugrade? ALso, do hotels like people that plan to stay for extended times (in my case two weeks) and take that into consideration for ugrade? Or do I spend a few days in each chain for better chance of upgrade?
All answers are appreciated for this newb And any mid 30s/40s higher end hotspots, steakhouses, restaurants are also appreciated (being I want to enjoy some of the newer hotspots and maybe even some of the old ones I have forgotten

Just stayed here in a Cozy Queen with what I am certain was a Full-sized bed. It had stickers about asking at checkout about the room being small, and how to get 500 bonus points and free internet. I assumed it was an SPG platinum promo.
When the stay posted, I got both the 500 Platinum Bonus and a 500 point SVC Promise. Anyone else gotten the SVC Promise Points and can confirm why they are there? Is this their way of getting around a bed-type guarantee?

Since there's a bit of negativity on this board I'd like to add my positive thoughts on this hotel. Mrs. Maturin and I stayed there over Memorial Day weekend. We booked a Studio Suite and were upgraded to a Marvelous Suite, which was truly marvelous ^. It had an outdoor patio which wrapped three quarters of the way around our suite and we spent several pleasant hours enjoying the sun and sipping good wine.
In fact, we've been upgraded every time we've stayed at this property and paid with dollars. We've only not been upgraded when we've paid with points. And I'm a lowly Gold and the Mrs. has no SPG status. Plus, we like the atmosphere. This is now our favorite NYC hotel.

I asked the front desk about the SVC Promise and they told me that they give the 500 points in lieu of not offering some specific services. I have no idea what those services are, maybe the bed.
As far as the W on Lexington goes, I don't know why people are so negative. I stayed at the hotel Mon-Thurs for about three months. Staff was friendly and courteous, bar was fun to hang out at, and rooms were nice (not amazing).
I received a few upgrades, which surprised me because I was newly platinum and NYC and Starwood properties are full of platinum guests during the week.
The bars were the main attraction at the place for me. It doesn't matter if it was a Tuesday night, the lobby bar and Whiskey Blue were filled with hot girls (fine, I am a pig).
